People were ready for Blake Dean for god's sake. Robichaux has at least accomplished something.

I get you're trying to make a point, and it's accurate. But for the sake of discussion, I just don't see any way this team goes 2 and Q. Too much pitching depth and the bats are too hot for that to happen

Exactly 1 trip to Omaha. 17 years ago.

My point is his resume is a bit more complete than Dean's

Definitely, Dean hasn't even finished in the top half of the Southland yet.

Do not hate Mainieri, but his teams traditionally cool down when they hit that big ball pack in Omaha and face better pitching.

I'm pulling for the players on this team to win it all, especially the seniors who came back.

If it does, then we can want PM fired without any backlash, right? For me, PM has only accomplished what he was supposed to. I'm tired of him getting to Omaha with very talented teams and shitting in the bed.

I hope I'm wrong but I don't see this team winning it all. I will be pulling for the players with all my heart, but if PM stinks it up in Omaha, I hope he gets fired.

It almost impossible to play better when you face the best of the best in Omaha.

I say almost because '09 did seem to get even better.

This team is finally built for that park. I think they will be fine. Poche needs to get his mojo back though for sure.

Do you have an actual reason? I mean obviously going through the CWS is a meat grinder, but what don't you "see"? This is a pretty damn good team that is built for the park and is playing some very good baseball right now

ETA: guy I'm responding to said this on 5/27:

"I would rather him fired today, but chances are he won't win two games in Omaha anyway. I'd love for these players to win it all but that would be just for the players not for PM."

This should be a fun, rational conversation

They just clinched a trip to Omaha with a 10 run win. They just don't have it.

So what's your point? What teams don't?. Name a team that has consistently dominated Omaha recently.

Just about any team good enough to make it has a legit shot to win, so the odds are about 1/8 for just about every team every year.

I'm not a huge Maineri fan...in fact I'll say it I dislike Paul Maineri as a baseball coach. Now that's not really about how much he wins and loses as it is about how the handles himself during and after the loses and I don't think he handles pitching staffs very well under pressure. However, I will give him 100% credit and praise for getting Poche out when he did last night....that was masterful.

However, to say he should be fired if we go 2 & Q in Omaha is crazy to me. That would mean you would have to give the man 0 credit for the run we are on right now. Which in turn would mean you would also have to give him 0 culpability in the slightly slow start to the season. I think the coaching deserves credit for all of those. In fact I'd say Maineri and Gibbs deserve a great deal of praise for this 20+ game run to Omaha. That's coming from a person that like I said above doesn't like Maineri as a coach and doesn't think Gibbs deserves or earned the job he has. I definitely respect both men.
