Coach O stories……

I work with a guy that played football with him at Northwestern. He’s got some good stories about him firing everyone up prior to the games, drinking, etc. One thing he noted no matter what he was early to practice, gave 100%, excellent teammate. Anyone got any other stories about Coach O?
No matter what Coach O gave us the best season in LSU History (one could argue the best in all of College Football).

I knew him as whem he was a grad student / Asst coach at NSU. The stories are true.

I graduated with him and also played ball with him in jr high and high school. We won state in my Jr year with O playing on the defensive line and Bobby Hebert as our QB. My best friend kicked the winning extra point. Does this quality as a story?

Not many details but when he was an assistant coach at Miami, he was on a recruiting trip to Baton Rouge & got in a fight ....at The Keg I believe. Arrested for assault & battery. And there's always this one: while in a meeting with a group of top O.Miss boosters, he ripped off his shirt & dropped down into a 3 point stance.

I've always O was a real lunch pail kind of guy. Total gym rat and deceptively fast. He was always a student of the game.

He took a solid roster left to him by Les, added to that group immensely, orchestrated opening up the offense which continues to this day, and took the program to its first undefeated season in 40 years. Even if you consider him a retard, that condition did not present itself until after the aforementioned success.
And the shitstorm of 2020-2021 (which was most definitely his doing) also has people ignoring the fact he was a very well respected position coach at just about every stop before 2016.

He’s the Dennis Allen of college coaches. He’s a good assistant coach but awful head coach.
The only difference between Orgeron and Dennis Allen is Orgeron caught lightning in a bottle and lucked into an unbelievable national championship season spearheaded by one of the best quarterbacks ever.
Orgeron holds the great honor of being the worst football coach in Ole Miss history. He has the worst winning percentage. That takes talent considering how bad that program has been over the years.
