Funny how you're comparing Ensminger's job to your cubicle job.

When you have a high pressure job, it creates anxiety and adrenaline. Throw in a deadline, and you're probably not getting great sleep no matter where you are.

You know sleeping in his office is probably no less comfortable than his house, right? It's not like he's sleeping under a fricking desk. They have access to showers. He has toiletries and a change of clothes.

This whole argument is so fricking dumb.

The only thing dumb is O feeling the need to broadcast this to the media. Coaches do this all the time at nearly every single program in the country and it never gets publicized, but O is insecure and always feels like he has to make a sale.

Without hearing it myself, I'm assuming this was just coach speak.

Right. So the reaction here, where people are saying it's bad that he slept in his office is totally overblown.

Maybe. Could just be that's his personality.

Aren’t the “offensive analysts” suppose to prevent sleepless nights from happening?
this is what I said in a prior post. The analysts can do all the time-consuming grunt work that used to be done by the OC. That frees up many, many hours for Ensminger.

And devising an offensive gameplan isn't brain surgery. Identify Auburn's weaknesses (the analysts do that) and then craft play calling to exploit them.

You guys have some really romantic views of football coach like it's some great endeavor that so few people can do. It that it takes determination, will, brilliant intellect, 80 hours work weeks, creativity, passion, understanding that only the brightest minds in the world can offer.

I honestly hate stuff like this. There's nothing noble about sleeping in your office. It's stupid, unhealthy, and worse yet, unproductive. Go home. Get some real sleep, come back refreshed the next day. This is stupid try hard stuff to impress reporters that doesn't help the program in any meaningful way. In my experience, people who put in a ridiculous amount of hours at work are either doing it for show or hate their families. (And I mean ridiculous, not your normal working late or long hours thing).

You are an idiot.

Just because you learn of something doesn’t mean it’s the first time it has happened.

Steve has done this often during his entire tenure here. It’s not unheard for coach’s to do this during the season.

All you saying if he would have worked on the offense in the offseason he wouldn’t have to sleep in his office.

You realize how much more information comes available as the season progresses. There are endless amounts of footage to watch and rewatch.

Only rantards could get upset with a coach spending every hour available in the day watching film looking for weaknesses to exploit.

How many hours of film can a sixty year old man realistically watch while maintaining effective attention to detail?

Whatever that number is, add at least 2 hours.

The time that he isn’t spending driving home and time spent at home before he goes to sleep on a day he does go home.

Yea this is the same guy who got asked about the World Series during his interim year and he was like i only care about [Opponent] I don’t even know who’s in the World Series. It’s like “ok dude, you’re not impressing anyone making statements like that”

exactly - and also remember that we now have analysts who do that type of grunt work and I assume provide summaries to Ensminger. So E doesn't have to spend all those hours breaking down film - the analysts now do that.

Again, this doesn't change the narrative or the point that it's a bad habit, and isn't necessarily a good thing.

Careful bud.

Everyone has a 40 hour a week job because there is always something to do. Always new information, new goals, new timelines. Football coaches are not special.

It's. A. Job. And it isn't much different from lots of other jobs out there.

No one is upset. People question the motive behind the statement and the veracity.

Haha just because you care about something doesn’t mean everyone else does.

You might try to impress people in your day to day life doesn’t mean everyone else lives to try to impress anyone.

I have 0 problem beliving that coaches at big time programs are 100% consumed with their work in season.

This. That's what the statement is. And that's probably why E has been at best a slightly above average OC throughout his career.

He can "look like he's working hard," and "sound" like it, but does it matter in the end to the product?

This is a joke right?

Name one other job that success is on the backs of 18-20 year olds.
