That’s not how it should work!!! It works that way for many knuckleheads who take better preventative care of their automobiles than they do of their bodies. Pay for a first class physical - at least every three years.

Our health system isn’t built like this. Its all about treating a problem after it has started. It’s always been strange to me.

Isn’t this the truth. Once you turn 65 (or whatever age for you younger folks), everything changes. But getting the right monitoring in place for those high risk hereditary issues is definitely something you should do.
Prostate cancer is completely survivable but without regular screening, it can be missed and spread to other parts of your body.

Walk a couple miles a day, lay off the booze and cigarettes or other tobacco products and you’ll do just fine. Hell, even a little grass brownies are good for you in moderation.

I wish Mike Leach would have gotten checked out or had regular checkups. We would probably still have him. He was great for Miss State, the SEC, College Football, and his family. He is missed.

Then take money out of your own pocket and pay for a physical. $5,000 every three or four years. You pay that for automobiles.

Same here 7 yrs ago. No symptons at all and had quadruple bypass with the widow maker being 95% blocked. Pretty scary from just an abnormal stress test

I know it’s almost like quick and easy access to fried and fatty foods for he past 40+ years has taken a toll on the health of Americans, particularly those in the south and in Louisiana specifically.

But I’m sure that’s what you were alluding to yes? ??

In the article she mentions getting a head and neck scan to make sure her prior neck surgery was still doing fine. That's why they found the blockage. An ordinary person's insurance won't cover that and it's hard to justify paying several thousand dollars out of pocket "just in case" when you don't have any symptoms.

My internal medicine guy who does my annual checkup set me for a coronary calcium scan, just in case. It’s cheap and simple, and it can help sniff out blockage issues early. For you folks around 50+, perhaps ask about it.

So glad she's okay! We see these examples all the time.

Lost a friend at only 35 from sudden cardiac death; atherosclerosis, the Widow Maker. Leading killer of men and women in the U.S. with few symptoms until it's too late. Mortality over 600,000 per year in the U.S. Need routine physical with blood work for LDL/HDL of course and triglycerides (lipids which cause the blockages). Found him Christmas Eve in his bed, only son. 89% blockage, really awful and preventable with meds/diet.

The calcium check for aortic valve health is usually not covered by insurance but is only around $150.

Go to a good doctor and get checked out. Life is too short already. God bless!

But if it WERE her time, can you imagine that conversation between Kim and the Grim Reaper? I know the Reaper is undefeated, but she would give him a hell of a run for his money

After experiencing discomfort in my chest I finally saw a cardiologist. After lasting only 5 minutes on a stress test he told me he was surprised I was still alive.

We went to the hospital where a heart cath revealed 95% blockage in the widowmaker and 90% blockage in two other arteries. The blockages were too close to other arteries for stents to be effective so I had a triple bypass the next day. I was 47 at the time.

Now 16 years later my last stress test results were equal to a sedentary 35-40 year old....so all is well and I obviously am taking better care of my body now.
