Actually bringing in a new guy under the guise of Co-OC makes a lot of sense.

I still maintain that I don't think Orgeron brings in a guy like Briles that may do really well. Ensminger and Aranda are perfect because neither have HC aspirations. That isn't going to be the case with a guy like Briles or Freeze.

Perhaps, but I hate sacrificing competent coaching for recruiting. I believed Sullivan was going to really develop our young WRs, but have been disappointed with the results so far.

Screw Co-Offensive Coordinator! Just hire him as the OC!

I'd start by offering him Co-OC, then offer him full blown OC if he turns it down.

I'm definitely not against. I'm all for whatever we would have to do to get Briles here. Unfortunately, I really don't see Orgeron doing anything differently with the offense for next season. I've been wondering what kind of response he would get from players and/or recruits if he had to admit to failing at hiring an OC two years in a row. That doesn't exactly instill confidence that he knows what he's doing.

Admitting you made a mistake and correcting it is far better than being Bull-headed.

We are paying Sullivan 450K. Not sure of the legalities of trying to hire someone under contract.

Of course it does. However, if 2 years in a row is a failure, why would anyone believe that the 3rd time would be any different? This is all hypothetical, but it does make for a pretty interesting discussion.

How do you know that Aranda doesn't have HC aspirations?

I should've said neither apparently have HC aspirations.

There are former assistants with less experience and prestige than Aranda that have gotten HC jobs, yet Aranda hasn't even attempted to interview for any HC position. Doesn't seem like he's interested.

I think Aranda is fine for now, but he’s pretty young. smart was Saban’s DC for 8 years, leading a top 3 defense the entire time before he went and interviewed and took a job.

We’re paying Aranda small school HC money.

Well that was my point. He's not actively angling for a HC job right now, which I think suits what Orgeron's looking for.

Something about the last deal Aranda signed made me think he's not really interested in moving his family again right now.

That's why this "Co-OC" approach could have merit.

O could just have a press conference that Ensminger will be retiring after next season and will be sharing duties with Briles to help familiarize him with the program, blah.

Implied OC in-waiting, even though its really not. In O's mind and with his minions, wouldn't make him look as bad if he were to rip off the bandaid (again) outright.

Construction of a huge fiction, complete with false titles should not be necessary, if you are dealing with mature people who are willing to face problems honestly.
Does Coach Orgeron really need this to save face?
If so, we have bigger problems than just an OC...

I don't care how you label it, I just want it done.
