Clemson was last (16th) in rushing D in ACC. They return 6 of 7 starters from that front.

They do get a new DC and Will Heldt. They also have a lot of star power. But the math doesn't add up. They had a few games where they held teams under 100 rush yards. Below are the ones they didn't. With a few shockers.
We all know the key will be our run game. Let's hope they keep up with how they ended last year.
Georgia 169
Appalachian State 149
NC State 179
Stanford 236
Louisville 210
The Citadel 288
South Carolina 267
SMU 154
Texas 292

They were a very good ACC team. Thats it. We play at their place. It will be a fight, but if we protect the ball and run at a decent rate, we should be fine

Durham will pop off at least two long TDs
No dislocated toes this year.

People will point out new DC and another year older…
I point out that we had a new high value DC and still had Penn, Ryan, Burns returning. Sometimes the stats tell the story not the “potential”

I'm really bearish on their run D in this spot. Allen might improve the unit as the season develops but they were objectively terrible. That said, we we were also a bad running team in 2024. Something has to give.
If we can run the ball successfully on early downs I really think we're going belt to arse on Clemson this Saturday. Our passing offense will be outstanding and the D will get plenty of stops.

They're returning a lot of guys on both sides of the ball. That's it. Returning guys who got dog walked by Georgia, and lost to Louisville at home and also lost to South Carolina. The only reason they even got into the playoff is because of how weak the ACC is. And they beat the big bad SMU Mustangs by a whopping 3 points.

I guess they would counter by saying LSU was 16th in the SEC in rushing and lost 4 multi-year starters from their OL who were drafted.

Careful with this logic. LSU had zero run game in 2024.

Well we will find out if it was as scheme thing or a personnel issue. Right now everyone is assuming that it was a scheme issue. Only time will tell. Sometimes good players are good at one thing and not the other. Like our offensive line last year was very good in pass protection but wasn't great at run blocking.
But again only time will tell if it was a scheme problem or a personnel issue.

The few who acknowledge this say it was a DC problem and that's been rectified.

I would counter our interior OL has been upgraded, at least at center. Did the 2 guards even make an NFL roster?

Stanford Steve said the last three seasons Joe Sloan has been an OC, he did not have a top 100 rushing offense.

This could be just as much of a factor as the players.

I think that is TBD. Center, no doubt. I don't know about the guards. They are replacing two 3 year SEC starters.

Fraizer is on PUP for the Lions. Dellinger was cut by Baltimore but, signed on to Cleveland's practice squad. So, I guess, technically they are both on NFL rosters
For LSU they have a transfer, at one guard spot. At the other is either last year's center who did not perform well, the backup who replaced Dellinger who did not perform well, or a RS Freshman with little experience. Hopefully the IOL is better. But it's hard to say it is an upgrade right now.
