The defensive issues are entirely on Aranda and O.

On Aranda for scheme and his unit (LBers) looking completely lost on a consistent basis.

O for refusing to hire a legitimate DL coach that has proven he can develop talent. Meatball and Johnson are awful at that.

In the end, the only coach earning is checks is Raymond at this point.

On Aranda. Not for the performance but for what we are paying him for.

Not Aranda's fault he is paid what he makes. Is it Jimbo's fault he makes 7.5 mil a year?

What defensive scheme doesn’t?

There aren’t good defenses with out lots of talent and depth.

I get it that every scheme has some minimum talent threshold to be effective. I also readily acknowledge that offenses are more creative and diverse than say a decade back.

It's not easy for a DC to engineer a defense that can be great against all comers.

As an example, take us in '16. We had good talent but not a surplus and we certainly weren't dominant at DL. But when Beckwith was lost our D didn't implode. FTR, we were still playing a 4 man front, not his preferred scheme. Aranda was amazing that year.

I'm all out of excuses and covering for him.

Even with suspensions, attrition and some injuries, his unit is definitely underachieving. No question about it. He gets paid a lot to get it right. They’ve been pretty good most of the year.

Losing Harris and Justin Thomas in the DL rotation have hurt, but I think one of the biggest issues is the "playing hurt" injured. Delpit is not 100%, Lawrence is hurt, Logan is hurt, Fulton is hurt, Vincent is hurt, Chaisson was hurt again and may not be 100%. There are so many players that are banged up on D but still playing it's hard to tell what's really going on.

I find it hard to believe that Delpit suddenly forgot how to play football or that Lawrence and Logan can't at least dominate lower tier competition.

There may be some scheme issues and we do have depth problems, but it's more of the talent drop from 1st to 2nd string vs bodies. I really believe that if we can get through the A&M and UGA game with wins and get 3 weeks to get healthy before the CFP the D will look completely different performance wise.

Childers is on ESPNU, I catch him and Coach Rick N, as I drive into work sometime. He did really go after Aranda saying to good of personnel and getting paid too much money. Needs to be fixed.

if you look at our front 4 we had Key in his best form getting 12.5 sacks
We had Godchaux get 6.5
Neal get 3.5

Compare that to 2019
Logan, Fehoko, Ferrell and Lawrence combines for 5 sacks.
And Chaisson has 2.

We Chiat aren’t getting the pressure with 4 we were.

We also have 2 Cbs older than Freshmen and 1 is hurt.

Delpit is gimpy
Harris has been out all season.

And when Beckwith went down in 2016 we replaced him with White!

We have talent but no depth in the secondary, and depth but minimal talent on the dline. That is our deficiencies. We will need Balanced recruiting on the defensive side of the ball for the next couple of years and we should be fine.

I do think Aranda over thinks at times. Out smarts himself.

Paying a guy 2.5 isn’t going to make our defense better

Right

Paying Aranda way over scale doesn’t make him coach better, it just keeps him in BR.

Pay raises don’t but better production, they just keep the wolves away.

You are worth what someone is willing to pay you. LSU is willing to pay Aranda his negotiated salary, so he is worth it.

No doubt, but pay raises are for past production and to keep a guy from leaving.
Paying more to a coach doesn’t make a coach coach better than he normally would.

Call me crazy but I’m sure O and Aranda had a reason for not loading up the box the entire game. I’m quite sure they are well aware of your solution but I think I’ll trust the paid professionals with this one.

But you should blame him for underperforming.
After you get paid, expectations change. The money
is the only reason for level of expectation. Its the money, period. Its his job. He's not a college kid, he is an employee.

Sorry Chris, but that was the plan all along.

No, the plan was to get the best coordinators performance.
He paid for it, but hasnt gotten it. It is absolutely a rightful topic of discussion, and Aranda should be blamed for underperforming.

I truly think he will return to form, but he is young and is probably developing. But evaluating his performance is necessary.

Yes, in this situation. So, you're telling me if he made $400,000, you would be fine with the performance and no one would be talking about how he's doing?

Yes, it would be the expected outcome. Why in the hell would you pay 400K? What kind of expectation is that? You pay for what you get. Every job in the free world is like that. Wake up and quit protecting Aranda. Dont be dumb.

Exactly. the idiots on here want to pay 2.5M for less than excellent play. And thats ok? Sounds like snowflakes to me.
