A subpar offense will commit turnovers, and 3 and outs. This will put your defense on the field more often in games and typically will give up more points.

+1

If no offensive production,
offensive team will go 3 and out.
3 and out will wear down any defense (physically and morally).
Thus, defense at Tenn was very strong, yet underrated.

Look at the talent level he had to work with over the past 5 years and you'll get your answer. UT has slumped on the field and in recruiting with an exception or 2

And you could look at his stats from just last year and see how good his defense did. See how you can manipulate stats to fit in with your argument?

Our 2003 defense gave up 11 ppg. That's the standard IMO.

statistically speaking, that is pretty close to being an outlier...

-accountability
-experience
-attitude
-knows what he wants to do on defense

LSU had none of this last year.

Our offense will be the strength in 2009. We don't need our defense to be all world. If Chavis can keep teams to 21 points and under, I like LSU chances.

eta. College football offenses have changed since early this decade. You play good offensive teams and points will be scored on you.

wow

the 2003 LSU D may be the best CFB D the past 10-15 years. UF in 2006 and USC last year are the competition, imho

LSU 2003 D was the best, maybe not statistically, but those last few games of that season, you just knew they weren't gonna give up too many points. I remember when Mauck threw that Pick 6 at the beginning of the Ole Miss game, I wasn't worried, knew they wouldn't score much after that.

though our D was poorly coached last year you cant take away from the fact that the Off coming out and giving up a pick 6 or a quick 3 and out a lot was a huge burn on the D. Having better QB play would have gone a long way last season.. We still lose some games but it wouldnt have been as bad. IMHO

Tennessee hasn't had an offense in a while. Makes all the difference.

I'm guessing he/she will not be coming back after we skullfrick them 51-7 on their home field.

LSU has boat loads of talent

I guess people are just assuming we are slipping one year removed from a National Championship?

We lost our QB and D Cordinator after the NC in 2007...we found out those are tough positions to replace overnight

LSU will be much better this year...I expect a 9-3 10-2 type of season, with 2010 being a year LSU will be picked to win some hardware again....

Washington's 1991 D gave up 9.5 points a game, held opponents to 67.5 yards rushing per game (7 TDs), 166 yards passing (7 TDs)
