re: Charlie Weis Jr. will coach the Ole Miss offense in the CFP

Ya, Lane put Ole Miss into this position by leaving, and their pride said, "don't let any of these guys coach us after this betrayal."
A fair feeling, but when you're facing your best chance of winning a title in 50 years, you're gonna have to make some tough decisions.
They finally found a middle ground which allows them to reserve the pride about Lane leaving but giving them the best chance to win, a resolution that could have been found days ago with less emotion.

it's the right move by OM to swallow their ego and do this to give their team a chance in the CFP
And that's the problem - their ego. I think the right move would have been to swallow their ego 2 weeks ago and let Lane coach thought the playoffs like Tulane agreed to do with Sumrall. The problem is that OM has an unrealistic self image.

We are going to see just how good Weiss is without any help from lane.

What principle disqualifies them?

Other relevant factors such as unavailability of key players and coaches that may have affected a team’s performance during the season or likely will affect its postseason performance.
I’d saying losing virtually the entirety of your offensive staff qualifies

Ole Miss should be doing exactly what Tulane is doing with Sumrall and allowing them to finish out the season. The players that want to follow Lane are going to do so either way. Everyone's ego is getting in the way of what is actually best for the student athletes.

Exactly. He’s taking a job somewhere else.

This is really strange. Weiss will be OC and call the plays during playoffs? He is already at LSU. Fans boo'd him, gave him middle fingers, shouted obscenities at him. Here's the strange part--LSU will be the one paying Kiffin for every playoff game OM wins, and pay addtl $1 mil to Kiffin if OM wins the natty. How bonkers is that? Espn and sports writers will have a field day with this one.
Truly elite programs should take note of how LSU is handling this. This is such a classy and upstanding way to treat stepping stone programs like Ole Miss when you call their coaches up to the big leagues.

Hopefully, people will stop whining about this now.

I admit it. I'm a pussy. I got a tear in my eye reading this. It's so decent all the way around from ALL parties.

The confidence Verge puts out there is contagious. Its like he said sure we will let our little brother Ole Miss borrow our guy for their playoff run. They will never get back there again and Weis can promote our great school and show to recruits what we will do for years to come.

Those fans would not allow him to walk onto that field.
And let’s be honest, neither would we in the same situation. Hell would hath no fury.
The head coach is a figurehead as much as anything. A play caller is a bit different.
This was a needed PR move from both sides. If Ole Miss rolls out there with no offensive coaches it’s not a good look for anyone. In divorce the kids suffer most. Good on both parents for working this issue out civilly.

Letting Lane Coach would be a bridge to far! This is 100% driven by PRIDE and maintaining the perception at least to their own fans that they’re holding the line!

I suppose the folks at OM sat around and said “We really f-ed this thing up”, and called LSU for some help.
What a pack of Numb Knuts’

Honestly it’s good for both sides. Regardless of what yall say - lane is a jackass for leaving the way he did. This is him walking that back some and at least pretending like he cares about the kids and fans of OM. Hopefully this means he won’t try and keep kids from backing out of the CFP - even if it means taking it on the chin by accepting LSU’s current OC.
Obviously a big boost for OM as well to retain some of the offensive staff and play calling before they all go to LSU after the CFP.

Ole Miss didn’t eff anything up. You can’t let a guy like Lane Kiffin stick around your football facilities after he’s taken another job. He would be promoting LSU and trolling OM from within the OM facilities. Another reason why it’s not fair to compare how Tulane is handling Sumrall vs. Ole Miss is handling Kiffin - that’s not something Tulane has to worry about.
This is playing out as it should have from the beginning - Lane leaving but leaving the existing staff in-place to coach the CFP before they move onto the LSU. The reaction from OM would not have been nearly as bad if he’d done that from the beginning.
Him leaving and then burning the bridge behind him is how everyone expected him to leave, but it was disappointing to see. Glad he’s walking it back some.

Why is everyone convinced they’re even going to make the CFP? If the committee follows their own stated principles, they’re out.
