So, to say they are getting by with pure middle of the pack game managers seems disingenuous. They are having above average QB play in the SEC

the "game manager" moniker has always been retarded, but none of them were elite QBs

Flynn wasn't a "game manager" either

"game managers" in college don't have the NFL career that Flynn had

No, they don't, but if you're going to have a game manager at QB, you need a better defense than we've had thus far this year.

While I agree, I also think we're on the right track here:

Conference rankings:
Scoring Defense – 3rd
Total Defense – 4th (YPP ahead of Alabama, Georgia, Ole Miss, Vandy, and Arky who all have solid D's)
Passing Defense – 5th
Rushing Defense – 5th
Opp 3rd Down % - 2nd (love this stat)
TFL – 5th

I agree they were not elite, but they were not pure middle of the pack qbs either. They were somewhere in between. Just like Flynn was(although Flynn's conference rankings were worse than the aforementioned Bama qbs)

You do realize that being an above average QB in the SEC usually translates to being an average QB in the NCAA, right? Give me how they compared to the rest of the FBS and come back.

Etling had 2500 yds passing at Purdue while losing 10 games.

The haters are getting pissed that we possibly do have a legit qb.

Give him a chance before he's labeled a bust.

Yeah the numbers aren't bad, but we've played 3 relatively putrid offenses. I think time will help considering the new scheme, but we won't know more for a while. Luckily there aren't a slew of great offenses on the schedule either.

A. Game managers, by definition, should have a higher QBR. Look at Harris after the Florida game last year and Jarrett Lee in 2011.

B. Your stats kind of backed up the theory they are game managers otherwise. They are never elite or even "great". In 2009, before expansion your stats say they were 8th/12/ and 7th/12 in both categories. That was also their only undefeated year.

The other years they are top 3rd or 4th in conference, but never top 2 in anything. That is with a massive talent advantage and a defense that gets them the ball with favorable field position and momentum.

ETA:

And like someone else pointed out, that is very average nationally as well.

Could you be more wrong? There are many ways to win a championship, including have a game manager. Matt Flynn, Trent differ, Peyton manning last year, most Alabama quarterbacks. It happens all the time.

This is passer rating, not QBR....

Passer rating is led in the NFL by Rodgers, Brady, Brees and Manning recently.

Exactly. Bama's qbs evolved into something more than just managers. Even Auburn's Nick Marshall became something more than a pedestrian manager. The same thing might happen to Etling; it was never going to happen with Harris.

Which were considered to be more than that after their second games played?

Sorry agree to disagree, with improvement from the special teams and the defense each week we are just that, a championship caliber team.

For some reason I feel like this may have been a solid troll attempt, and if so screw you sir.
