If Etling can play with similar stats to those he had against moo state we will be hard to beat. IMO he doesn't have to evolve into anything more than he's showed us. That being said I think the kid will get better as the season goes along and he becomes more comfortable with our receivers. I am def not on the we are right where we need to be train, but I def feel like we are moving in the right direction.

Gross, Jarrett Lee had the highest passer rating in the SEC in 2011.
And Coker barely edged out Greyson Lambert last year...

so "game manager" means mediocre?
I always viewed "game managers" as not the most talented guys but were really efficient and smart

Jarrett Lee pre-Bama game in 2011 IMO.
Low on turnovers, high on completion %. Not a lot of volume.
65% of his passes, 13 TDs, 1 INTs, like 150 yards/game.

I've heard a ton of different uses. To me a game manager is a QB who simply isn't asked to do much. You can be a good game manager or a bad one, but if you're throwing the ball less than 20-25 times per game, you have a game manager role.

every game is different but over a season I agree that there will be a game or a few games that being a game manager isn't going to be enough to win.
in the whisky game, we needed a QB to bring us in FG range at the end. we damn near needed it again Saturday.
this game manager myth was started last year when LF was winning games for us and should have been buried by the end of the year.

Of course Jarrett Lee finished 1st in the SEC in QB Rating in 2011. I loved the guy but he was not exactly the definition of elite.

I'm not saying he was why we won, I'm saying how he played in the first 8 games is a perfect example of what a game manager looked like.
He was a terrible game manager in Tuscaloosa for whatever reason and Jefferson had to come in and never left the spot.

I don't disagree, but look at the title of this thread - I'm talking about championships. And if we didn't have the defense and special teams we did in 2011, Jarret Lee and Jordan Jefferson would have quarterbacked an 9-3, 8-4 team.
