Many think his draft status would not improve significantly by staying one more year.
With the looming salary caps on rookies coming to the NFL, it is not a bad time to move.
Maybe he feels it is time to get paid for this and that is OK.
Thanks Chad for the hit and runs! :)

I'd like to know which dummies said that. He's a 1-year starter who wasn't completely in shape this year and had a good but not great year. It's not like he's going 1st/2nd round after a year like he had.
He could SEVERELY help himself coming back for a senior season - or at the very least playing baseball this spring to help his MLB draft status as another option for himself. He's taking the worst way out IMO

Agreed on all counts, Thunderbird.

I wouldn't be shocked to see him run 4.7 in Indy

this isn't a horrible move for Chad .. his future is in football not baseball ... his season last year in baseball was cut in half by spring practice .. by the time he came back to baseball, mikie mahtook had emerged ... he gave a nice, different look out of the bullpen from the left side in the 7th and 8th innings, but he isn't gonna throw that effectvely at the next level ... After this NFL draft ownership WILL get an NBA'ish rookie cap in the new CBA .. Chad can't raise his stock as a senior under Miles ...ask Brandon LeFell and Charles Scott ... Be happy for Chad .. he's a great Tiger !
Good luck Chad .. !
Good luck Chad .. !

the dreadlocks of doom will be missed at the back end of the tiger bullpen and in the outfield

The new rookie scale will only have a big impact on first rounders, which I doubt Chad will be next year.
On the other hand, I am sure Dwayne Bowe, Glenn Dorsey, and especially Tyson Jackson have to be happy with the money they made after their senior years.

Good luck Chad. Thanks for the memories:

Chad will make more $$$ as a 2nd rounder this year as he willbas a first rounder in 2011 ..

2 of the 3 players you listed had NO choice but to come back for their senior years .. only Dorsey rolled the dice and it worked out for him with the Outland .. quit being selfish ..

Jones's situation is a lot more like Tyson Jackson's than Glenn Dorsey's. Jones is not going to be a first rounder this year. He might not even be a second rounder. This is a bad career choice.
I bet Jackson and Bowe would have been picked in comparable spots to Jones in 2010 after their junior years, which is why I didn't mention Buster Davis, who had no choice but to come back.

Hopefully he'll put a feeler out there, then come back like LaFell did last year. If not, then this SUCKS.

if he runs a sub 4.5 he could go in the 1st or early 2nd
If he runs sub 4.6, I think he's a lock for the 2nd round.

Laron Landry came back too.
Jones, to me, was never in great football shape. If he was going to play baseball again this year and come back and play football as a SR, im not sure he could have improved his draft stock.
Right now, he is definitely on the radar of NFL teams. Team's know about his potential. IF he can dedicate himself for the next few weeks, lose a few lbs, improve his 40 time and show out at his workouts, than he is going to be sitting nice.
He'd more than likely be in the same situation at the end of next year had he came back and played baseball as well. He's never going to be the best player he can be until he dedicates himself to one sport. Ask Jared Mitchell.

I think not. Trev wasn't even drafted, was he? Chad goes in the top 3 rounds.

he'll get drafted but he shouldn't go in first three rounds according to his play at LSU.I hope he goes early. I just think he has underachieved at LSU
