Are they the only instate team with a winning record against LSU? If so, I would market the hell out of that in their promotions to get sponsors and people in the seats.

This is a fun Jeopardy question, not a marketing tool. No one in their right mind is gonna go "Undefeated against LSU even though they haven't played in 80 years? Here's a wad of cash."

They won't.
Too many people are still involved in the school that made the decision to drop the school from D1 to D3, which nearly caused the school to close.
They're on their 4th AD in less than 10 years.

How many people in the area are going to pay $100,000+ to play D3 football in Shreveport...?

I played baseball there in the early 90’s. They had a great draw back then. Small D1 school, conference affiliated, automatic bid. Basketball, baseball, tennis, golf and gymnastics were very competitive. Title IX hurt their budget, making the move to D3 hurt their endowment as a large amount of alumni were athletes who were pissed at the decision.

That’s a name I haven’t heard in a long time. Used to watch him tear it up in the Gold Dome. Willie Jackson was another great player from back in the day.

I knew an old guy who used to talk about Paul Geisler, who he said was the best football player he ever saw in the 1st half of the 20th century. Guy played at Centenary. Back in the day, they were a power…I think they beat Notre Dame once.
This could be the start of a changing of the guard in Louisiana football…

Supply and demand. In early days with the only University options being limited and far away, more colleges were created and been supported by the growing nearby population while big cities have stagnated. Also, Shreveport and Bossier City probably have a very low college attendance rate.

Centenary College’s problems go much much deeper than any problem caused by going from D1 to D3. They’re not even considered a decent liberal arts college any more. Once upon a time, they were on par with ANY liberal arts college in the south. The acceptance rate for getting their grads in medical school, law school, grad school etc was very very high.

Let’s just put it this way, CC is way more “woke” than LSU ever dreamed of being. So much that the issue of going from D1 to D3 in athletics is barely noticeable to the former donors to the school. Also, many of the high dollar donors to the academic side have passed away and there’s no more money coming from them.

Fun trivia fact: Centenary College is the home of the Wideman Piano Competition. Some past winners have gone on to participate in the Van Cliburn International Piano competition in Fort Worth.

Case in point-
They installed a new turf soccer + lacrosse field. They put down women's lacrosse lines in the hope of adding a team. Except they approved the WRONG line dimensions for the sport. The 1 girls lacrosse team in town can't even play a game there because the lines are so terribly incorrect. (See the red lines)
