Glad that we had the leeway for Collins to finish the game for the sake of his confidence.

But yes, as we get closer to conference play, there will be fewer mop up spots for him to get himself together. Was really hoping he’d be right in the middle of the bullpen mix this season.

What he didn't mention was how that game ended.

I was at that game and at the end of the 6th inning, with LSU throwing a five-pitcher combined no-hitter (Jared Poche started the game, pitched one inning and got credit for the win) the NWS coach came out of the dugout, walked over to the LSU dugout, called Mainieri out and they talked for about a minute.

Then the two coaches walked over to the homeplate umpire, said a few words with him and he motioned the game was over. Remember, this was at the end of the SIXTH inning not the the seventh inning when a ten-run rule would take effect.

The few fans who were still in the stands were just as confused as I was how a game could be called after 6 innings. But it was.

Bill Franques, on the the post-game radio show, said that the NWS coach told Mainieri he was out of pitching and was going to allow a forfeit to be called because he couldn't field a team to finish the 7th inning.

To prevent that Mainieri asked the homeplate umpire to call the game because of "lightening in the area." But the thing was, there was no lightening in the area. At least no lightening close enough to allow thunder to be heard in the stadium. And it wasn't raining, either.

But that is what the umpire did. So the official reason for the game ending was lightening in the area.

The game was stopped in the bottom of the sixth inning due to lightning in the area.

Interesting stat line:

Brady Neal had one official at bat (he got a hit) and scored 4 times.

He had 3 BBs.

Neal has really advanced at bats. At times, he swings at bad pitches like a freshman but he fights his way right back into the at bat. He's going to break through very soon. He's gathering more and more info every time he steps in the box.

Jones is a Fricking monster of a dude especially for a freshman. I'm looking forward to seeing him begin to reach his potential at the plate. He's already a huge target at 1st when Morgan is in the field and when he moves on.

Jones is struggling at the moment, but that happens in baseball. He's gonna have to take a seat for a game or 2 and re-focus. We need that big RH bat in there.

Now this is what I expect every week! Playing to our potential! I'm pissed that we gave up 4 runs though. Heads need to roll for that!
