I’m not sure how you can say they will be good or bad at this point? They have several more roster spots to fill and as WW said, they will likely be primarily overseas players.

About as bad as this past year.”
We also got a new/ better coach.

I don’t care. Every media outlet is going to paint this in a bad light regardless of the reality.
I only care that he finds a way to win games.

If you think the hit pieces were bad before, just wait until he trots out a semi pro team this season and runs a train on the league
Then they will say he is still a cheater. - Total B.S. by the way.
Build the team just like all the others did to go far in the tournament (Europe baby).

Which is precisely why I question this approach. It's a gamble that you're banking on the NCAA working with you and historically they don't. I would have much rather him tackled the portal for guys stateside and built a roster that way and, maybe, sprinkled in a couple of guys from the international side.

1000% believe that this will change how the NCAA handles this shite.
I'm for LSU getting the best guys but, ethically speaking, if you played pro ball (Euroleague, G League, NBA two-way) or got drafted at some point...then you can't play COLLEGE basketball.
I've said in other threads 18-20 year old euro guys that haven't been drafted and are in the lower leagues of Euro basketball I'm good with...same for other parts of the world.
But Pandora probably can't get put back in the box.

LOL frick the national media, dude is killing it at building this team like he told Rothstein and is playing all available angles to get HIS type of team on the hardwood, maybe all the McLoser pansies who entered the portal will want to return and recreate some General Wade magic

The NCAA's rule is as follows:
quote:
Before initial full-time collegiate enrollment, an individual may compete on a professional team (per Bylaw 12.02.4), provided the individual does not receive more than actual and necessary expenses to participate on the team.
The NCAA doesn't have to "work with LSU". It just has to follow its own rule. There are guys who played college basketball LAST year, who did so after playing multiple years in the G-league and international pro leagues. Illinois, who made it to the Final Four, had multiple guys on its team that came to college basketball from playing as pros in international leagues. Hell, LSU had a guy (Zipper) who did EXACTLY that. There was no controversy with his eligibility. LSU also had a commitment from a 22 year old, Owen Foxwell, who played the last 5 years in the Australian pro league, before McMahon was fired. I don't recall anyone on here "questioning" that commitment. Nor have I seen worry about his eligibility at his new school, Wisconsin.
The issue, to the extent there is any, is with the ambiguous "actual and necessary expenses" standard. However, I'm certain Wade has vetted that issue WELL before choosing to go down this path. And we have seen guys who make 6 figure salaries as pros fall under that standard. The distinguishing factor between those several guys who were international or G-league pros and someone like Charles Beadiko was Beadiko previously played in college. The others didn't. It's why I not confident RJ Luis will be eligible to play
You can say this is not what college basketball is supposed to be...and I would be inclined to agree. But the NCAA has previously allowed it and Wade is trying to take advantage of it. Will it prompt change from the NCAA? Maybe. But until then you do what you feel is the best approach to build a winning roster. Maybe, as some posters on here seem to gleefully wish will happen, this will turn into a disaster and LSU will have a bad season. But that would be the outlier in Wade's 12 year career in which he's never had a losing season.
I just find it odd that McMahon signs international and no one is "worried" about eligibility. Yet now that Wade is doing it suddenly there is concern.

Spot on, if the goal is to win and build quickly you cannot build like you did even 5 years ago.

So Wade is really doing a community service by this.
I mean that unironically. People keep bitching and complaining about these pro players coming back to college. Wade's going to push the envelope until the rules change.
People are still going to bitch and complain, but at least it might lead to reverting to a system that looks like college basketball again.

Judge already lined up. If it even comes to that.
