Q. You've had a lot of success in developing offensive linemen, which is a position group that LSU has struggled with, especially this year. I'm wondering what do you look for in those offensive linemen, and how do you go about developing them, and how can you bring that to LSU?

What do you imagine Ed would have said?

“We gonna get the best o linemen in the country.”

quote:

BRIAN KELLY: You're looking at what their demeanor is. Playing that offensive line position requires a profile that I like to stick with. I'm not going to get into the specifics right now, but there's a demeanor, there's a profile. There's a brotherhood on that offensive line that we build, and that brotherhood is real. Those guys are selfless, and they are the backbone of any great offense that I've ever coached. If you have that kind of resume, sign up. We're looking for you. That's the starting point. When it comes to development, it's hard work. We're ready to take on those kind of young men that have those special qualities and are ready to really dig in and put in the time.

I’m so damn excited to see LSU with a real CEO. Going to take me awhile to get use to not having a caricature as the HC any longer.

No more playing with one arm tied behind their back. SEC fricked, LSU Aligned AF.

You can't answer that question any better than that. I am really starting to like Kelly

Accidental downvote but this is exactly the kind of evaluations we need. Not just a star gazer. Chasing the top talent is obviously going to get you a good squad but like Georgia every year (sans this year), if they don’t gel, they’ll fall apart.

It seems like Ed O just went after whoever rivals and 24/7 told him to go after.

He’s making a pitch to OL to hit the transfer portal and come to LSU.

Try to imagine how aligned our o-line is going to be.

You can’t. You can’t do it.

Campbell, Jones, Bordelon.... all meet that criteria. Kelly has to be thrilled with those three commitments. And I would guess those three players are very excited to play for a coach like Kelly!

Take Dellenger. Saturday night he got abused by #2. He was as overmatched as I can remember a lineman being in the course of a game. He needs to bust his butt in the weightroom this offseason while improving his technique and quickness. He can be as good as he wants to be. Just depends on how hard he's willing to work.

To be fair, you’re talking about a true freshman OT lining up against a DE that’s likely to get drafted this year. We really shouldn’t have been in a position where Dellinger needed to play this year in the first place, but here we are.

They did not deserve that ranking. The spread attack and burrows savvy in dodging blitzes or getting the ball out quick covered up a whole lot. The run game was ok but not great and didn’t get great push in obvious run situations. And none of those guys have had good starts in the NFL

It frustrates me when people refuse to give the 2019 OL credit - it was a great group.

That being said, I’m pretty sure you completely missed OP’s point.

This new LSU team will live or die on OL development. If we get that going as expected the sky's the limit. If we continue to struggle in that dept, we will in the W column as well.

I expect us to ROCK.

I think it's hilarious that a post outlining a reasonable and sound answer like that would garner downvotes. The troll is real. Even still, I'm pretty damn excited myself.

I knew someone would bite on his comment and say something asinine.

Lloyd Cushenberry and Damien Lewis both made the PFWA All-Rookie team. Lewis has 27 starts in 29 games. Cushenberry has 29 starts in 29 games.

2019 never happened for half the loons on this board.

Kelly is solid but to pretend that O was not critical to the 2019 title is lunacy. He was the perfect guy for that run.

Let's hope Kelly is the perfect guy for the future.
