What are their records the last 4-5 years? I'm genuinely curious.

He does win more and makes it to Omaha more but he only has one championship and one runner up finish in one less season than CPM at LSU. The rant definitely would have wanted him fired well before he won his championship.
And before I get the “where were the programs when they took over” Florida had been to Omaha more recently (2005) than LSU (2004) when he took over at Florida.

one less season and the same number of losses.

I was thinking more recently but yes if you go back to when they started their resumes are very similar. I am not one that wants LSU to get Sully or think they can get him at that.

FLorida HS baseball recruiting ground>>>>>>>>>>>Louisiana HS baseball recruiting ground

I think Tony Vitello (Tennessee) or Eric Bakich (Michigan) is most likely to be our next head coach after Mainieri retires. Of all the coaches we could pursue, I think those two would be great fits and probably very getable for us.
Two of the best younger coaches in college baseball. Good developers of talent, and Vitello in particular, is a great recruiter and he knows the South. I just hope no one else has plucked him from Tennessee yet by the time we’re looking for our next coach when Mainieri retires.
Other guys I see mentioned a lot like Corbin, O’Sullivan, Tim Tadlock, etc. aren’t leaving their current jobs. Not even for LSU. If Kevin O’Sullivan was gonna leave UF it was before they finally committed some effort to baseball and built the new park. He’s not going anywhere now.

I have a major man crush on Vitello. If I’m him I’m not taking another job until someone besides CPM is the head coach at LSU. He knows it’s towards the end and probably the closest job at the major programs in college baseball to becoming open. He has done enough at Tennessee where they aren’t getting rid of him any time soon so he can stay there and choose the best place for him.

Corbin will never leave vandy with the setup he has and those endowed scholarships he can hand out

CPM is not leaving LSU and he will not be fired. He'll be our HC until he decides to retire.

I know it’s unlikely to happen but he could be asked to retire. Everyone wins.

No need. Let skip coach from stands.

I think he retires after this freshman class wins a National Championship or is done. He understands how special this group is.

O'Sullivan is to tRant baseball like Jack Del Rio is to tRant football.
I have no interest in bring O'Sullivan over. His teams have been much more talented than LSU over the last decade, and what does he have to show for it? Same that CPM has.
When it's time for CPM to go, get me a great young up and coming coach

There are maybe 6 people on this site that watch other college baseball games that LSU isn’t playing in so they only know about 5 coaches in the sport and they aren’t CPM so in their minds they are better automatically.

Even after this season Maineri will still have 3 years left on his contract that pays him ~$1.1 million annually. LSU had no season last year (for all intents and purposes) and this year (currently) there is only minimal capacity at the Box so it is not as if Paul's "poor job" (as some would argue here) is hurting LSU financially insofar as reduced attendance. Plus, with the athletic department's revenue stream being crushed for 2020...which has bled in 2021 with no real end in site I doubt Woodward wants to eat 3 million+ to fire and hire a new baseball coach when LSU is already facing big issues with the current budget.
For those who want Paul fired probably the most realistic scenario is that he coaches through this season and the next. Maybe by then the revenue stream will be somewhat back to normal and the AD will have more flexibility if Paul is not living up to LSU's expectations.
In short, I just don't see LSU being willing to eat $3 million in a buyout at this current time. Particularly in light of the fact that they just had to do that in their most profitable sport (football). Even though LSU baseball generally turns a profit in normal years it still isn't much. That being the case, there is LESS incentive to make coaching moves as in football
