re: Can we talk about Chris Blair?

Chris Blair calls games like he doesn’t like LSU.
When he first arrived I thought he was a big upgrade from Hawthorne in terms of actually providing information about the game. Particularly in basketball. This season I had to listen to a few basketball games over the radio for various reasons. It was an AWFUL broadcast. You hear the crowd noise rise but it wasn't until 5, 6, 7 seconds later before he told you why. There would be a whistle, then a long pause before the audience was told the reason for the whistle. Just a really bad broadcast.
Maybe he, like the fanbase, had just checked out and was going through the motions. There are probably only so many times you can hold a postgame interview and say "coach, that was a tough one." Regardless, the broadcast was far worse than I remember.

I like the guy that calls womens basketball games. He actually has some excitement in his voice. Chris Blair was not born into a Tiger. He got this job from Georgia State.... We need someone that has LSU in their blood, so they can have true emotion.

I think LSU in general has gone SOOO overboard with all the advertisements, it’s hard for the announcer to stay in the emotion of the game bc he’s got to worry about the 85 different ad reads he’s got to do everyone there’s a strikeout or a foul ball or a walk or a home run. It’s ridiculous and would be nearly impossible for anyone in to keep track of. And Blair is a professional so he absolutely will get them all in and all correct, which actually makes the broadcast worse. I’m not saying he’s not a little dry, but there are other factors at work too.

His baseball calling skills are not good. He cannot handle the fill conversations needed to hold the audience’s attention during a typical game’s down time. Ben McDonald and Lyn Rollins have mastered this.

It’s not the just the low energy stuff. He’s always about 3-5 seconds behind every play.
He does the same with football. You will hear the roar of the crowd after LSU makes a big stop and he’s acting like the play just started.
He’s not going to get plays wrong doing it like that, but he is very hard to listen too
He’s actually good for basketball since you can’t really delay your calls in that sport.

Hawthorne gave much more memorable calls in high stakes moments, but Blair is much better at giving us accurate information more quickly.

Chris Blair has a great “national” voice. He’d be fine on Westwood One. He sucks as an LSU guy. He lacks the passion needed in a major collegiate sports market. It is what it is. People rarely listen on radio anymore, anyway. Not worth the change.

Chris Blair has never been a fit. If we're in the mood of moving pieces around, he needs to go.
Always felt this way.
Passing on Hanny to be the voice of the Tigers was criminal.

Lol you know for television the producers match the video feed with the announcer sound, right?
I'm referring to Lynn Rollins doing a better job of describing what is going on when he's on the broadcast.
When Blair's audio is matched with the video feed, it's about the only time I can take him. He gives good information and seems to be informed. In fact, he'd be a better tv broadcaster. But he's really bad at giving a real-time description of what's going on. With the video, you aren't relying on his description. I frequently try to listen to him when I'm in my truck, and it's painful. He describes things in a way that doesn't let you know whether or not to be excited, pissed, etc. A few weeks ago, in a very monotone voice, he described a play like this (I'm paraphasing b/c I don't recall the player names).
"(Runner) has a good lead... (pitcher) makes a throw over to first ... ... ... runner is gonna stop at second. ... Yorke couldn't get that throw over to him, and it hit the wall. Brown had to come in to grab it."
It was an awkward pause, and anyone listening would have just assumed Yorke caught the ball and was tossing it back. Nope. It was a bad throw, got past 1B, and the runner moved to second before the listener knew what the hell happened. A good radio broadcast describes the action as it happened. Blair seems to give you a recap afterwards far too often.

Blair is the antiseptic, corporate hire like McMahon, Brian Kelly, etc. Thankfully, Woodward is gone.
Gives me hope this too may change

LSU is not getting rid of him, unfortunately.

I’ll never forget the 2019 football season with all of those amazing, scintillating plays that only garnered ‘ho hum’ descriptions from him. It was disappointing to say the least when the impartial national broadcasters displayed way more excitement than he did, time after time

I like the "Pucker Up" guy. Corny, but I like it, and it's always good news.

Perfect description of how he does baseball as well. Thankfully, I'm either at a football game or watching it on TV, so I can't recall ever having to listen to him.

I watched the clip to see what the fuss is all about

I don't like how it often sounds like he's the broadcaster for the other team. Almost bummed we scored?
And weirdly excited when the other team does. This has happened quite a few times.
This is really confusing when you're dependent on the radio call.
