Skip Bertman always used to say their goal was to finish 20-10 in conference play. I feel like this team has a good chance!

Anything more than 8 losses in conference with this team, will be a disappointment

Yes and no. Can’t predict the future, especially in baseball. Are we good enough to go 20-10 in the SEC? Yes. Will we? We will see. Can’t account for injuries and fatigue.

The SEC is very stacked this year. I think 6 of the top 8 right now are SEC. A&M has been top 5 at one point. I think in the power ratings I saw yesterday 13 of the 14 SEC schools were in the top 40.

No offense to Skip, but I think the SEC is a whole different monster than when he coached at LSU. In part because of the attention he helped bring to baseball. 20-10 is still a good metric though.

Absolutely and that would be a great season. Winning every series is hard enough in this conference but essentially that is what that record means (give or take). I do think this season we will be slightly better though at 21-9,22-8. 20-10 is very solid in this league and would keep you in top 5 nationally.

All of this....

SEC too good this year. I assume lots of the top teams will beat up on each other. Lots of 2-1 series

20-10 hasn't even won the conference regular season for a number of years.

That would be a YUGE achievement, given play in recent years, and given the competitiveness of the SEC.

1-2 this weekend in a C-O-L-D and windy Scott Olsen Field should be considered success. It would have been even in the Bertman era.

The schedule (with current records) for reference:

at A&M (12-4)
Arkansas (13-2)
Tennessee (14-3)
at USC (16-1)
Kentucky (14-2)
at Ole Miss (14-2)
Alabama (15-2)
at Auburn (12-3)
State (11-5)
at Georgia (12-4)

Pretty tough on the surface. I'd say they can go 20-10, but our first three series are going to be tough to win and the road trips to USC and Ole Miss are no picnics. Thankfully, Alabama will always be the team that dogpiled when they beat us on Sunday to lose the series 2-1. We beat them annually basically on principle.

This is called a full Gaspard.

There’s a real chance no team gets to 20 wins. My point is that you can’t have that set number be a “disappointment” without context.

That would not be a success. It would be understandable because A&M has a good team and Schlos has had our number, it seems. None of that makes losing a series a success. It will be cold for them, too.

And there's a better chance LSU wins more than 20.

My point is I did have it in context. You baseball blowhards act like anybody who isn't posting in the game threads every day doesn't know what they are talking about.

Are we arguing about whose subjective expectations are correct? You are allowed to have your own, as far as I know. Other people are allowed to disagree with your stated expectations. In your defense, though, Ell "Deichmann isn't the centerpiece of the offense" 13 is a blowhard, though. Just kidding, Ell.

If LSU doesn’t win 20 SEC regular season games this season (barring injuries) I will be disappointed.

Sorry, not sorry.

frick that. I don’t buy that whole “we play to win 2 at home and 1 on the road” bullshite. That’s coach speak. Expect to win every series, even on the road. I understand this won’t happen, but I am still disappointed when it doesn’t.
