So don’t go out there and try to play with a broken arm. It’s a rough game.

Never done a damn thing for Louisiana despite making a ton of money off state

Lengthy explanation but more factual than anything I’ve read so far. I know the Manning family pretty well and they don’t hate LSU like everyone here is implying. Yes, Archie played for a heated rival during that era, but the man was from Mississippi for crying out loud. Ole Miss was his team growing up. Archie respects the hell out of the history of LSU football, our hard nosed physical players he went up against, and our loud hostile stadium.
Peyton gets a bad rap. I use to see Peyton at a ton of LSU games when he was a teenager and he cheered on the Tigers. LSU to be honest did not recruit Peyton that hard because we locked up the #1 recruit in the country in Josh Booty. Even the late great Bill Walsh said Booty was the best high school QB he had ever seen. Booty was supposed to be our savior and Peyton Manning was an afterthought. No reason for the countries two best high school QB’s to go to the same school. Peyton spurned Ole Miss much to his father’s chagrin (Archie caught hell over this) and paved his own path to Tennessee which is a border state to Mississippi. It’s a team Ole Miss fans can’t stand. Peyton going to Tennessee was a direct slap in the face to Ole Miss fans because he wasn’t even raised in Tennessee. North Mississippi fans absolutely hate Tennessee. The rivalry died down between those two when the Vols moved to the SEC East. I respect Peyton for going and doing his own thing. Pretty much the entire LSU fanbase thought Josh Booty would win one or more Heisman trophies and could care less that Peyton went out of state. Every LSU fan I knew at the time chuckled that Peyton didn’t go to Ole Miss.
From my understanding young Arch Manning kind of likes LSU but it hasn’t helped matters with the 2020 and 2021 LSU teams led by Coach Orgeron. Arch certainly doesn’t hate us but I think we can all agree our school has been a dumpster fire the past two years. Having said that Walker Howard signed with us along with young Nussmeier. We need more depth at QB. With Ed gone and Brian Kelly in if Nussmeier transfers out at the end of next season don’t rule out a Manning finally playing at LSU. I’ve seen crazier things happen. Guess we will have to see how things go under Brian Kelly and what kind of relationship he can build with Arch and his family. We’ve finally put together a pretty professional coaching staff. Top to bottom the best staff of true professional since Saban was our HC.
A lot of Louisiana people go to Ole Miss and vice versa. I think Eli went to Ole Miss strictly based off of who their head coach was because David Cutcliffe can flat out coach the QB position. Eli knew for a fact they would never play for a NC but he wanted to be well coached in a more relaxed and laid back environment which is certainly not LSU particularly when you play the QB position.
The Manning family get a bad rap. Archie and Cooper played at Ole Miss. So what. We didn’t recruit Cooper. Peyton and Eli had pretty good reasons to shy away from LSU. I think it’s ridiculous to have such disdain for Archie’s kids just because they all didn’t go to LSU. I think Peyton and Eli have very legitimate reasons for why they chose to go elsewhere. I hope Arch Manning rethinks LSU but it certainly doesn’t help matters when our fans are trashing his entire family.

The Rant’s hatred of the Manning family is directly related to how the Manning’s feel about LSU.
does anyone here love:
Landon Collins
Eddie Lacey
Dontae Smith
etc?
of course not.
so why the hell would any of us like the Mannings that did the same thing they did?”

Thanks for the in-depth summary. I agree, we (the LSU fans), aren't doing ourselves any favors when it comes to recruiting Arch.

I like the Mannings too.
The Manning/LSU hate is made up, they make the best decision.
Archie went to Ole Miss and loves his Alma Mater.
When Peyton was ready to go to college, Ole Miss and LSU weren't in great shape, Tennessee was the best option
When it was time for Eli to go to school, Peyton's offensive coordinator from TN was now Ole Miss' coach, easy decision
Now it's time for Arch to make a college choice. We have Walker Howard, who is one year older. If I'm Arch and feel I'm not as good as Howard, I'm going elsewhere.

the things said about that family absolute pale in comparison to the things said about Justin Jefferson’s family before he came here.

The rant (in general, not everyone) is jealous of the Mannings and their success.
And that no Manning’s have gone to LSU, which is a ridiculous reason to hate a family.
You can absolutely be a fan of LSU and the Mannings. I am.

there used to be a letter to Mike Anderson from Archie's mother on the wall in the BR restaurant thanking him for not killing Archie(on a safety I think,) when Archie was playing with the broken arm and Mike had him dead to rights and pretty much just "set" him down as opposed to obliterating him

Archie was an LSU nemesis
Archie was a favorite saint and Nola person.
Many saints fans latched onto the Manning’s success when the saints sucked. Gave them something to pull for to rep the city. I was never in this camp.
Post saints super bowl win, Archie never said anything supportive for his old team and long time home town.
No Manning will ever wear purple and gold.

LSU/ole miss '69 in jackson, ms. That's all you need to know. Tigers only loss all season and it cost them a chance at the national title.

People hating on the Manning kids for not coming to LSU is what I don’t get. 1.) LSU was absolute dog shite as a program at the time and pretty much all top LA high school kids went to out of state. Ed Reed, Warrick Dunn for example. It wasn’t until Saban when that changed.
LSU was in a bad place as a program during both Peyton and Eli's recruitment. Peyton came out of high school during the Curley Hallman era, and Eli during the final years of Dinardo when he was stubbornly holding on to Lou Tepper.
Peyton said on record that if Cooper were still playing, he would have went to Ole Miss. Since he would be unable to play with his brother, he chose a place where he could thrive, so it was a family/career advancement-type decision for him. To be frank, LSU offered nothing regarding that criteria.
And apparently Josh Booty didn't feel LSU was ideal for his football development as well, because he took the money, and played pro baseball, and later returned to give football a shot when it became apparent he had no future in the MLB.
It was simply a bad time for LSU football.
I don't hold it against the Mannings. Just because I live in Alabama, should I start cheering for the Tide or Auburn, and encourage my kids to go there, even if it's a total shite show? Hell no. The Mannings owe LSU nothing.

Well, Archie is from Mississippi and played at Ole Piss.
Does that help?
Does that help?

In today’s report we are now on Arch’s shot list. The hatred has now turned in to a love fest, at least temporarily.

i don’t really give a shite that they are from here.
the list of athletes from this state that played elsewhere is long and illustrious.
But only these dipshits keep popping up as if we supposed to adore them because their dad played for the Saints.
