He’s going to be good but POY in SEC?
He leads the league in scoring, has been all year. He's unguardable at times. Now, I'm not putting him up for defensive player of the year, but that's rarely a deciding factor for POY.

Stop with this nonsense. You want people to think emotionally like you. You are free to be as irrational as you want to be, as a fan, but that doesn't give you license to decide what is right or wrong.
These are the facts: Cam Thomas has taken 103 more shots than the next closest player on the team. Let that sink in for a minute... He is shooting .404% from the field, and .295% from three. He is averaging 2.8 rebounds, and has 30 assists and 39 turnovers on the year. The only thing he excels at, statistically, is free throw shooting, at .901%.
Scoring average is meaningless when you are hogging all of the shots and shooting a low percentage. And the worst part is that LSU has three other guys who can go for 20 plus on any given night; so there is no reason for Thomas to "feel" like he has to be the man. It is by far better when he does NOT try to be THE guy.
If you just want to judge him as a freshman, that's fine. But all of this "special players get special rules" BS, and now talk of being the player of the year, requires a more critical thought process in comparing him to other players in the league. He hasn't earned special rules, nor has he earned player of the year talk, in my opinion. He just takes a ton of shots and compiles points, rather than scoring in the flow of the game, too much of the time.

“Volume scorer” is the politically correct way of saying the kid is going to shoot every time he can get a shot off.
I’d love to see Cam’s three point percentage when shooting off of a pass, as opposed to shooting off the dribble. When he doesn’t force shots and shoots in rhythm coming off of a teammate’s pass he has been knocking them down, especially in the last three games. But there was a stretch this year when he took so many contested three point shots off the dribble with a defender in his face and he was making about 15% of those.

Actually some of Alabama's best players like Petty have had subpar games this year. And it is correct that the SEC is weak on bigtime players this year so he definitely is in the conversation.

I think the dude just posted an article . Meaning its someones opinion

Give up the schtick, man.
At least Waters passed the ball
It kills the team but you think it’s a schtik, that’s funny lol

Honestly
I thought Trendon was going to win POY this year but he has been out of sync the last few games I think took him out of the running

Thomas is probably the frontrunner because by and large the media is lazy and just select the best scorer on one of the best teams. No individual player on Alabama's teams really stands out among the others so the defacto choice is Thomas. Certainly that wouldn't be a bad choice. But IMO, the POY should be Smart
He's in the top 10 in the league in PPG. He's in the top 5 in FG% (best of all guards); 3 point FG%; 3 point FGs made; Assist per game. He's also among the leaders in assist:turnover ratio among PG's in the league.
Getting more in depth, he leads the league in "Effective FG%". He's 5th in True shooting % (Days leads the SEC)
Thomas puts up a huge volume of points and he is a big part of why LSU wins. However, he's not overly efficient and is probably LSU's worst defender.
Thomas averages 7 more ppg than Smart. He also takes 5 more shots per game than Smart AND 5 more FTs. Smart is actually averaging only 1 less 2 point FG and one less 3 point FG than Thomas per game...despite taking 5 less shots per game. Where the separation comes from is Thomas takes A LOT more FT's than Smart (and hits them at a 90% clip).

And how does it kill the team?
You like to look at facts, well then let's look at them:
LSU team offensive efficiency: 6th nationally/1st SEC (by a huge margin)
So if he hurts the team so badly, then wouldn't that hurt their offensive efficiency as a group? The answer is obviously not.
A volume scorer is only bad when it is a detriment to the team as a whole, which he has not been. His 3 main scoring teammates still avg. above 12 pts/gm.
At the end of the day, do I wish he would pass a little more and use some better shot selection? Hell yes. And he has done a little better the past couple of games and will hopefully continue to improve. But I'm not going to crap on the guy for being our top scorer when it has not hurt this team by him being so. And for those criticizing that a chunk of his points come from the FT line, that is just stupid. Part of being a scorer is making plays that cause the other team to either allow you to score or foul you, that's part of the game.
But nevertheless, I am an LSU fan and therefore will be happy and excited by the prospect of one of our players garnering so much attention for a prestigious award, regardless if I think he is deserving of it or not.

You’re asking me how someone that shoots seven 3pters a game at 26% can hurt a team?
Cmon man
I see his impact and I’m not crapping on him in the sense that I think he’s bad. He is just not a POY caliber player.

Yeah that makes no sense. That is a skill that a lot of scorers possess. Not only are you getting free points but you're also getting the other team in foul trouble which causes them to not defend as tightly or aggressively.

I didn't ask how can it? I asked how does it, or better, how has it hurt the team?
It's easy to speak in hypotheticals; and yes, conventional logic would say that those kind of stats typically would hurt. But we have the team data and as of right now, it does not correlate to a story of it having hurt the team. If it hurt them, they wouldn't have 4 players averaging double figures and ranked in the top 10 nationally for offensive efficiency.

It’s a 13-6 team bro with a handful of single digit losses
wtf are we talking about right now
His foul shooting helps efficiency as does the rest of the team where the other big 3 hover around 50% shooting

You are bitching about his offensive stats. I asked how has it hurt the team offensively. Or are you too dense to understand that?

He never passes and forces way too many shots. Do people really think otherwise.

He had 4 assists in each of the past two games.

Took 16 shots each of those games.
The question is if this is an anomaly or if this what we will see from him going forward.

No one is really saying they don't think he is an inefficient scorer or that he shouldn't look to pass more; but I could also argue that as of late he has turned a corner some and is showing progress, which will hopefully continue. For measure, here are his stat avg's for last 3 games: 45% FG; 36% 3pt; 4 reb/gm; 2:1 asst/TO ratio (8 assists total). Those are solid and well-rounded numbers.
But as I have already stated, the issue here is that supposed LSU fans are bitching about one of our own players getting recognition and hype for a big time award. That's just ridiculous. Be happy and grateful for the positive recognition, which LSU basketball rarely ever gets outside of its own media.

bullshite
Y’all cry cause teams make 3’s but think it’s ok for Thomas to go 1-8 from 3 when he’s been shooting 25% all conference lol
