Cam Thomas Front-Runner for POY SEC

Front-runner: Cameron Thomas, LSU Tigers

We watched Thomas (22.6 PPG) demonstrate his significance to Will Wade's NCAA tournament aspirations over the past two games, as the guard averaged 25.0 PPG (10-for-17 inside the arc) in back-to-back wins over Mississippi State and Tennessee, both by double-digit margins. He has scored 17 points or more in nine consecutive games for an LSU squad that entered the week as a No. 8 seed in Joe Lunardi's Bracketology.

The SEC is extremely weak this year and lacks big-time players. Who else are you giving it to?

Jevonte and Pippen are the only one's in the conversation with him. The article says Mann, but Cam easily deserves it over him.

Whoever's Alabama's best player will win the award. Top player from best team.
Thomas is a first team All-SEC player, not the league's best player.

Vandy is last place in the conference, Pippen isn't close to the POY conversation. Watch Petty Jr. win it because Bama almost ran the table.

Oh look, it’s Lester here to shite on one of our top players for being a volume scorer instead of an efficiency one, the same way he did with Tremont.

Give up the schtick, man.

I agree. I liked him as a player and yea top 5 in SEC but way to inconsistent at this stage of the game. His shot selection, along with a few others on the team, is very suspect at times. He does create a lot of shots from the free throw line. I also love he work ethic.

Not trying to be a negatiger but he’s shot 40% from the field in 3 of our 12 SEC games. When you shoot 17 shots a game (not counting Free Throws) I sure hope you can average 23 points. Especially averaging 7 Free Throws a game too.

IMHO Shuler from OM deserves it more than Cam. Talent around him is not near as good as what Cam has around him.

For a freshman, even though he shoots a lot, Cam's ability to score as much as he does one way or another is impressive. Only two SEC teams that we've played have held him under 20 (minus Ole Miss when he got hurt at the start) and he was just one shot away from 20 in those games.

Javonte Smart has been our best and most consistent all-around player this year though and has actually been one of the best in the SEC. He is in the top 10 in scoring, he is 4th in FG %, 3rd in 3-point %, 4th in assists and I believe 10th or 11th in steals per game (and about the same in free throw %.) I also think he is either 1st or 2nd in the SEC in minutes played per game. He has been durable, consistent, and was huge in our biggest win against Tennessee winning SEC Player of the Week. He stepped up when Cam got hurt against Ole Miss too as LSU got a 14-point win without their leading scorer.

Probably LSU baseball fans. It’s February and they just crawled out from their rocks, downvoting any sport that dares take the shine off early baseball coverage.

His shooting percentage, along with the fact that he does almost nothing in any other area, makes him anything but a front runner, in my opinion. C'mon, people. It's fine to root for the kid because he plays for our team, but don't act surprised that some of us think this is a joke. Take off the purple and gold glasses when making an actual evaluation.

Alabama doesn’t have one guy that is their superstar. They are just a great team that plays together and any given night someone can take over.

I’m not saying the article is right but Cam Thomas is the national name in the SEC this year. They don’t watch every minute of every game and scrutinize the heck out of it like we do. From 1000 foot view of the entire league Cam is probably the best and 22.6 PPG from a freshman is tough to overlook when Kentucky doesn’t have a sure fire number one pick in the draft to go to.

Cam Thomas is a stud. Dude wakes up getting buckets. Regardless of what you think, it’s a good thing that he’s getting national attention. You should be happy and pulling for him rather than trying to tear him down. Some of y’all are fricking haters.
