So a lot of it is the execution?

"It is. The thing I like about it when I hear our players talk, our players understand football. They see opportunities. When we miss opportunities, we don't beat them up but we hold them accountable. As coaches we want to put our guys in good position scheme-wise. That's our job, to teach them things that will make us successful. I like the fact that our staff, we feel like we can do better, and that the players think they could have executed better. When you are hearing those kind of things, you've got a chance, and we are executing a lot better."

passing execution in practice must have been excellent since they only spent 1/3 of the time on it

Did you read the whole QA? He specifically says there were things they wanted to do, but if the players can't execute in practice they aren't going to go run those plays in a game and just hope it works.

Going into his 3rd season (senior season) here, Mett already had 2 seasons as a starter, (one here his junior year, and one at a community college)

By your logic, then, Mett regressed in his second year as a starter, since his CC numbers were better.

Harris is on his 3rd season and should definitely improve like Mett did in his 3rd season.

You're forgetting a big part of Mett's improvement as a senior was going from Studrawa's awful offense as a junior to Cam as OC.

Harris has already been under Cam for two full years. Of course players can improve with experience, but they all don't make huge leaps just because they're older. While I do think Harris can improve, I'm afraid his improvement will be marginal.

Even if it is marginal, ~60%, 2,300 yds, ~15 tds and under 10 int is more than good enough to win.

Bill Walsh once said the single most important attribute necessary to play QB at a high level is accuracy. The game thus far is still way too fast for BH and it causes him to miss throws. That can be possibly be fixed with reps but it may not. JJ never got over his struggles with accuracy and BH may not either. Only time will tell

Ummm, Harris has arguably the best player to ever come through LSU, along with 2 5* WR's from NOLA. Let's revisit this argument in 5-10 years.

So you are saying

Now this is the one thing I can agree with. Compare Russell in 2005 to 2006, Lee/JJ in 2010 to 2011, and Mett in 2012 to 2013. The only time a returning QB that started the previous year did suck was JJ from 2009 to 2010. That was an anomaly (the rare sophomore slump).

If nothing else, Harris will improve, possibly drastically, based on a year of starting experience.

That is correct. Harris first year starting as a sophomore stats are very similar of Mettenberger first year starting and he was a Junior..

Yep. Mett played the full 13 games and the only thing notably better was his completion %. He had a horrendous 2010 JJ-esque 3 game stretch vs UF, USCe and TAMU where he completed 43% of his passing for 403 yards 1 TD and 2 ints. Funny thing is, we went 2-1 during that stretch vs 3 teams that finished in the AP top 10.

If you only used Jennings's stats vs SHSU (7/13 53.8% 188 yards 3 TDs) to project Harris vs McNeese St, he finishes the season with 2346 pass yards (8.11 ypa) 16 TDs 6 ints, 269 rush yards (3.58 ypc) 4 TDs. Now you look at a guy who put up 2615 total yards and 20 total TDs in his first year and it just looks much better.

Of course he'd have the horrible games to end the season on his resume (all against the top secondaries), but it's easier to swallow when you realize he had a sports hernia and we didn't have Dural vs TAMU.

So I'm putting my trust in an improved Harris and WR group (who was inconsistent as well), not in Cam and Miles.

Learn to use commas. "Guess we'll see a-hole" and "Guess we'll see, a-hole" mean two entirely different things.

It is fixed with reps almost all the time. Which is why the JJ comparison is all the more absurd.

agreed...same process and timeline that we saw with mettenberger, if I remember right...

The difference is that in his first year starting, Mett improved as the season went on. Had his best game by far in the loss to Bama.

Harris regressed noticably as his first season starting went on.

Again, this is my opinion but Etling seems to be a better fit to do the things Cam and Les want from their QB in this system

From what I've heard he doesn't have the arm for the deep ball, which is an integral part of our offense. The deep ball brings the safeties out of the box which helps the run and any short passes we might hypothetically be taking.

Competition is obviously healthy and necessary especially at QB, but people undervalue Harris's deep ball. If I had to choose between a guy who can run, hit a deep ball, and has seen an SEC schedule before vs. a guy who can hit the short/int routes in practice but has never had even a snap at SEC speed, I gotta go with Harris but I'm also glad Etling is there as well.
