I don't really get it. Why not let guys play where they're most comfortable? Thompson has played 3B and Doughty has played 2B all season, and Arnold has played more SS than them both. Leads me to believe that Arnold does have arm issues. But whatever, glad to have Doughty back and to see what Thompson looks like at SS

There has to be some reason that we don't know about that is causing Arnold to not be at SS.

Either way, I don't mind these changes. Seeing how Doughty handles third right now may be crucial in opening up a spot in the lineup when Gio returns to try to fit both him and Drost in the lineup.

Not sure why you wouldn't put Arnold at 3B and leave Doughty at 2B

They tried Arnold at 3rd in the preseason and fall. It didn’t go well I don’t think

One game

shite I thought it was more than that last year. Sure would be nice if he could play third and then let Arnold and Doughty play middle infield.

Given the current lineup, I don't really have an issue with it. If he's going to bat lead off, at least two somewhat competent hitters are batting 8-9 (for today anyway). We will see how he handles the lineup with Milazzo back in it.

When Gio returns I would love it even more if he has the ability to put Gio in the 9 spot.

That’s what someone posted earlier this week. I didn’t look it up myself.

IF Doughty can handle 3rd I think this is probably you’re best defensive infield.

And also like someone said it gives you the opportunity of moving Dugas to 2nd letting Drost and Gio stay in the lineup when he gets back.

This is the kind of stuff I want to see on the midweek games.

Yes. But think of this possibility.

Doughty handles third fine (that will be tested now).

Arnold isn't at SS for some reason, but we all know that this should/could be a move made going forward.

Dugas has played 2B more than any other infield spot, so there should be some confidence plugging him in there (although I would like to see it happen in some games before SEC play).

Now LF is open. When Gio returns you can put him in CF and move Drost to LF.

However, Thompson seems to be getting more comfortable at the plate, and he's going to make removing him from the lineup more difficult if he keeps it up. I'm not going to complain about having too many options though, since that's much better than the alternative.

Yeah I don't really care as much about the configuration. I would just like to see Dugas, Doughty and Arnold round out the infield to see how it works as you say in a midweek game. Then, let Beloso play left and DH Travinksky or whoever until Gio gets back.

It's the best case scenario, and things have to work out for it to be able to happen. If Gio continues to sit around the .300 range, he's not going to be able to bat 9th if 5-8 are struggling. If 5-8 are just getting productive ABs, then it opens the door for our optimal lineup.

MAINIERI... IM TRYING TO SAVE YOUR JOB. ARE YOU READING THIS???

I love this lineup but my gut is telling me that CPM is expecting Arnold to fail. My conspiracy theory is that he’s keeping him at 2nd and when Gio comes back it opens the door for Dugas to take over at second. That’s assuming Drost and Dugas keep hitting well.

Edit: obviously I didn’t read the thread I see I’m not the only one thinking this.

Doughty has played a nice 2b. Arnold has played a shaky 2b. If Arnold has arm issues, why not shut him down for these mid week games and get him right.

Not sure why Arnold is batting 7th. At least swap him and Drost.

Anyway, glad to see Doughty is back. He might be a little rusty at first, but this will give him time to get his timing back before SEC play. He was really starting to look like the player we thought we were getting, and didn't get to see much of last year.

That's pure speculation, and shouldn't be repeated on the board as if it was a fact. We don't know exactly what the reasons are.

But I agree. If there is some sort of arm issue, I'd rather see him shut down in the midweek games.
