After graduating high school as valedictorian, Walker played running back for the University of Georgia, where he was a three-time All-American (football and track) and winner of the 1982 Heisman Trophy and Maxwell Award.

From wikipedia. Any truth to this or is this just one thing he'll always have over LF7??

Haha I just thought it was funny that Herschel was valedictorian...from the interviews I've seen from him just doesn't seem like the brightest of the bunch. Thought I'd throw in something on a slow Monday. My fault stupid stupid me

Edit: too many bangheads

Herschel and Bo were both bright guys. Everytime I hear Leonard speak he comes across as a bright guy. Like the other two Leonard will win a Heisman as well.

Yep, this was after struggling in school when he was younger according to the documentary. The story goes that his football coach challenged him to do better in the classroom and Herschel decided to be the best. Folks like Herschel struggle with "blessing and a curse"

He's obviously a weird cat, but when he channeled that into a productive goal he was basically unstoppable. It's not human for a 12 year old to do 1,000 push-ups and sit-ups on his own every day. Herschel had a want

School doesn't get you into Canton though

Damn that's actually a great answer. Didn't watch his doc, should do that.

Definitely a weird cat, did you see him on Le Batard talking about playing Russian roulette almost everyday?

He almost quit football after his freshman year to join the marines because "he wanted to kill people".

His documentary is definitely worth the watch. One of my favorite lines, they showed a reporter asking him if he got tired from carrying the ball so many times in a game. He smiles and says "the ball ain't heavy"

But yea it's a good watch, Herschel has multiple personality disorder. Warrior Herschel played football and wanted to kill people. School Herschel went to class

Fournette is a bright person. I don't know his study habits though.

I would imagine St. Augustine High may be little tougher to pull Valedictorian than Johnson County public school.

I'm not certain Herschel will make it to Canton.

I guess more because of his crazy antics rather than actual intelligence. I've misjudged Herschel.

He won't. That was my point. Who knows what would have happened if he'd played his entire career in the NFL instead of the AFL though

He gained almost 5,600 yards in the USFL in three years before going to Dallas

Speech isn't tied to IQ. A person's speech is tied to his geography and upbringing, not his intelligence.
