In full preparation for a monster year.
quote:

How much heavier does Burrow want to get?

"We'll leave that between Joe and I," Moffitt said. "But he's going to come in heavier."

The new workout regimen has little, if nothing to do, with Orgeron's desire to run his quarterback more often during the 2019 season.

The fourth-year head coach has said often that he wants to use Burrow's running ability more — he rushed for 399 yards and seven touchdowns in 2018 — but Orgeron doesn't want Burrow to becoming too big.

"I want him to be lean," Orgeron said. "I don't want him to be big at all. I want him to be fast. Don't want him to be bulky at all. His priority will be throwing the ball."

man, that is such a conglomeration of contradictions, that it really doesn't tell you much. Coach speak, I suppose...

He looks like he could carry another 15lbs easy enough.

15 might be pushing it. Unless he loses at least half of that in fat.

I felt often times last year, Ensminger ran the same QB draw plays with Burrow and abandoned other plays that could have been more successful. Not to say it didn't work, but there were a few times we'd run it 3 times in a row or multiple times on 1 drive and it took away its effectiveness.

I think Burrow can be a good running QB, but he's not going to blow by anyone. So, the running plays need to be used sporadically in order to be more effective. Hopefully, it'll happen and he can have a great season both running and passing the ball. I'd love to see our QBs get 600-700+ yards rushing the ball to keep the defenses on their toes guessing.

I'ts not strength they lack, it's quickness at the tackle position

Summary:

Moffit: I want him to be big, but not too big.

Orgeron: I want him to be leaner and faster, but not too fast because he really isn't going to run much. We're going to pass it.

A larger engine doesn't slow the car down. But a lot of junk in the trunk will.

All he needs to be is good enough to make the defense worry about him scrambling. When the entire secondary has their backs turned he can easily get 10 yards and move the chains.

8 or 10 more pounds of solid muscle could be a good thing. Joe and his coaches will figure this out.

Joe is a run/pass guy. His ability to run and scramble makes him effective. If hes not running hes not playing QB because he is a average passer at best. Best to put on a few pounds to help with the contact.
