I was on a plane with Danny waurrfell a few years ago. I think I’m the only one that knew who he was. Nobody bothered him or even talked to him that I could tell.

That being said, if we’d been around Gainesville, he’d probably still be a hero.

So ifBurrow chooses to live around BR like Billy cannon, she’s probably right.

Not sure why this was downvoted. This is the advice of true friends and good business advisors.

That's kind of a shame that that's how you would respond. Billy paid his debt to society and he did a lot of good after that happened. That one moment of idiocy did not define that man any more than the worst moment of your life defined you. In addition, as I knew Bunny and went to school with her when her Dad was in prison, I know how painful it was to her as a teen aged girl and her family. And she is a truly nice human being. And she currently represents LSU with class, a sense of history, and dignity And on top of that, her advice was solid. So maybe try being a little less glib and a little more considerate or thoughtful next time.

I’m 47yo and can assure you I’ll never ask a 23yo for a pic/autograph/or conversation if I see them out.
Appreciate the hell outta that kid and his accomplishments but will not stalk him
If anything I’d pay his tab and leave

I grew up around the family. All I'm saying is Dr. Cannon was interrupted a lot when we were out in public. I never saw him be mean to anyone but I'm sure it was tiresome. He could never escape it.

If Eric Crouch was eating at WalkOns, think he'd have a non-stop parade of people asking for his autograph, a picture?

This reminds me of a chance encounter I had with Bart Starr about 10 years ago. I recognized him and started a conversation about, of all things, the weather, which was cold as heck that day. He could not have nicer. I mentioned it later to some friends and their response was “ he probably appreciated that someone still recognized him!”
Point is, his celebrity will fade over time, but I hope he enjoys the ride and it looks like his celebrity is already paying dividends for SE Ohio.

ETA: Bunnies life wasn’t all that skewed by some form of celebrity......the parallels some people are trying to force with Burrow are over the top.

How the hell do you know how much her life was skewed by her fathers fame? She was trying to help Joe with what’s about to happen to him, and you are salty on a message board.

Was Eric Crouch a hero in two states, did he win the Heisman in a landslide, have a memorable acceptance speech that has been parlayed into a large fundraiser for the poor in his hometown, stories on National News a week after his Heisman, and possibly the top pick in the draft?

This was the dumbest comparison you could have picked. On top of that, as soon as anyone in Walk ons would recognize Crouch and mention it, there would be a line of people looking to get a social media pic with a Heisman winner. I’ve seen less famous get that treatment from people who don’t have a clue who the person was.

College football had nowhere near the exposure during Cannons time compared to today. Every game is televised today and social media on top of it means 24/7 exposure. Billy Cannon probably played on television at LSU a couple of times.

Except that you had far fewer news sources and everyone read the same national articles and news clips about that Cannon from the Bayou. I’d argue that fame was harder to attain back then but just as powerful as it is now.

You don’t see as much of the Elvis and Beatle reactions to music stars today, and sports stars were true heroes back then.

This is Bunnie Cannon. If you have any questions I am happy to answer in a private email openly and honestly. Our family couldn’t be prouder of Joe and LSU. I said what I did because we wanted him to be prepared. With great honor comes sacrifice. He will be an amazing ambassador for LSU and Louisiana. He is an incredible young man.

I have worked at LSU for 32 years and have loved every minute. I hold two degrees from LSU. My father worked until the day he died signing autographs and appearing at events for LSU in order to help.

Yes he was arrested for counterfeiting in the 80s. He made a mistake. Apologized and paid for it in time and in more ways than you can imagine.

If you have any questions just email and it may take a while but I will respond to every one.

Someone once said there is enough room in this world for many lights. You don’t have to blow out one candle to light another. They were both amazing people and LSU is an amazing place. We have two heroes both very different and equally as talented.

I had a project where Rohan Davey was the site manager for one of my vendors. I was trying not to geek out on the man, so I just pretended like I didn't know he played for LSU.

After the job was finished, I told him that I watched him play at LSU and was a huge fan. We talked about the 02 Sugar Bowl for a bit.

He seemed gracious that I would bring it up.

OP you should listen to the interview again, because everything Bunnie said was in a positive context. I never got the vibe that she or her dad was tired of that life. Joe will take this in stride and I am sure he will not regret a minute of the life he will have. Forever LSU!!
