He'll yea, let's open up a few more seats and gets some more paying folks into Tiger Stadium.

Before you know it, LSU will be calling all band alumni to perform voluntary for all home games

any word on how many will be actually cut from Tiger Band?

Why cut? You mean to tell me Louisiana does not have $43 million for LSU when the State budget is over $30 billion?
It is not a lack of money Louisiana suffers from, but a lack of priorities among the elected officials and administrators.
More cuts are on the way too. They are maxed out in terms of how much they can cut Education and Health Care. Seems kind of silly for a state thats last in education or next to last to cut education even further.

Anybody think that Bama is cutting their marching band because of budget cuts?

what does this even mean?

To my knowledge, not many schools outside of Louisiana are having drastic budget cuts of over 10M. There are budget cuts around the country though.

I am beginning to believe that on some level alot of this is a damn shell game get the fans pony up more money. Either that or whoever handles the financial and public relations part of the band is a moron. If the band dept is in such bad shape why aren't they asking alumni and fans for help? Even with the supposed fund raising for the new band building you barely rarely ever heard anything about it outside of the internet or on campus. Why not get someone high profile like Shaq to make a commercial asking for help. It could be aired around the state asking for help from the public and private sector. They raised the money for mikes new cage with private funds. Why do they not do the same with helping the band? IMO its because whoever runs the financial end of the band is a idiot.

which raises another question, why the cuts?
When louisiana has faired better than most states in the bad economy.

Excuse me if I sound ignorant but lets say they cut 25-30 out the band. If its piccolos and woodpipes is the band really going to sound any different?

I posted this to another thread about this subject, but here's something that should be cut, but won't because it is of PC nature.
There is this position which is a useless one - LSU vice provost for Equity, Diversity & Community Outreach. That's a new one that wasn't needed when I was in school and I really doubt it is truly needed (or even wanted by many) now. Cut that position.
How about CUP? Is it really needed and how much money does it get? Here's an article and I would cut all of this.

There are many great Tiger Band alums out there that have contributed very much not only to LSU but to the entire world such as emmy award winning composer Julie Giroux.

No one actually handles the PR of the band as far as I know. There is no representative. I haven't heard from anyone either that the band department was in bad shape, all the money comes from athletics so I have no idea how a budget cut made by the school could downsize the band

in 1997 it was $740 per member at 300 members. It was and probably still is by FAR the highest stipend for band members in the country. My wife was in the Bama band 5 years ago and they made $75.
You are WRONG.
I was in the LSU band in 1997 and the stipend was $640 per member for the 325 memebers. That was just for being in the band, that had nothing to do with travel expenses.
$640 had not been changed in 20+ years at that time.
Also, friends of mine were in the Auburn and Bama bands each of which received over $1000 for the fall semester.

One more comment why this is horrendous PR for LSU - some of the most active alumni for LSU were members of Tiger Band. We give generously to the university, donate much of our time on alumni boards throughout the country, attend college fairs to recruit students to come to LSU and many other things that are just too numerous to mention on here that benefit LSU.
