I have to admit I was impressed with Penn State's Band in Orlando.

How does LSU's band compare to Penn State's?

This brings the total impact on LSU’s budget to approximately $43 million in the last 12 months.
But we have an "education" governor, right?
THIS is why ranters ought to be more concerned with getting rid of our governor and legislators than Les Miles.
Last person remaining in Louisiana please turn out the lights before you leave.

What do you not understand? LSU losing $43 million from its budget and the lack of money for the forseeable future is going to adversely impact the LSU football program more than Les Miles and his coaching staff.
On a comparative scale, Les Miles and his coaching staff are a hell of a lot more productive than our governor, legislators and the LSU administration.

Cut the amount of money given to people in Tiger Band, not the amount of people in the band.

Cut the raise given to our mediocre defensive coordinator and give it to the folks in Tiger Band.

Why cut? You mean to tell me Louisiana does not have $43 million for LSU when the State budget is over $30 billion?
It is not a lack of money Louisiana suffers from, but a lack of priorities among the elected officials and administrators.

I'm not saying they should cut anything from the band. But if they feel like this is what they have to do, then do what I said.

Fairly comparable. LSU had a better music selection though.

We also didn't play the same song 11 times in a row after every single down

I wasn't hatin'. I love TGBFTL. I just thought the PSU band is underrated. IMO they were better than tOSU & Bama's bands. Like I said before, their lack of variety was somewhat annoying.

I'd be worried if I was a woodwind.

Why cut?
As a former member of the tiger band, someone who has donated money to the band, and a college music professor, I think $1000 for being in marching band is beyond ridiculous. There is no other program in the country that I know of that even comes close to this amount. Keep in mind that tiger band is a CLASS that students take for credit. Look at it from an administrator's standpoint: That's $300,000 LSU is paying students to take a class, and that's not including travel, per diems, instrument maintenance, gameday food, etc. I have closely observed the day to day operations of at least 4 college marching bands in my career, and I can tell you that LSU's band doesn't work any longer or harder than any other college band (Alabama's band puts it more hours for sure, and they make about $100, and don't get nearly the same per diems for band trips). If we have the money, great, but even if they cut each band member's stipend by $200, they're still making way more than anyone else in the country to be in band. I PROMISE you that even if there were no stipend, we would still have a marching band, and people would still be clamoring to get into it.

Is this cost cutting a means to stockpile enough funds to buy out Miles after next season?
