i don't know much more than anyone else. the kids are willing to take cuts in stipends but I mean, it is what it is. They could pay Roy's salary and another person making the same as him with the money they would save by reducing the stipend to its old size.

Why would he be on the chopping block, since you have to have that second director minimum?.......
Because he's non tenured faculty. LSU is preparing itself to eliminate 1/3 of the professors/teachers/instructors.
They cant say we are going to eliminate all non tenured faculty except Roy because he's second in command of TB.
The main reason from what I was told was the loss of instructors for the music dept.
You can't run a large college marching band without a second director. Too many people to control and too much to do for one person. This is a slightly different situation than teaching a class. You don't need 2 or 3 instructors in a classroom.....

let's be honest here if the band were to be dropped attendance wouldn't drop off one bit.
Attendance might not drop, but a hell of a lot of people would be mighty pissed off. A marching band is a big part of the college football gameday experience, and LSU's is one of the best.
Imagine LSU football with no GBFTL "Coming down the Hill" or "Pre-Game" or playing during the game. Yeah, let's take the one organization on campus that's consistantly Top Ten in the Country and totally F it up. Not gonna happen!

This quote isn't from me. I'm all for doing whatever it takes to protect Tiger Band.

You're talking about decisions made by Louisiana politicans. What do you expect?

Louisiana politicians have literally been the biggest supporters of TGBFTL.

From Mudminnow:
This. Supporters of LSU have got to get a better handle on the seriousness of what is about to go down. The budget cuts being proposed are devastating to a university with any pretense of being a reasonable place to send your students (or an acceptable place to educate the people you want to hire)
Exactly. This is very very bad news for LSU.
To me this is not a political issue. If you care about LSU at all as a school you have got to get on the phone and tell his office this can not stand. I don't care about your political affiliations

Tier 1 status may have already been lost now if not it will be come july. You cannot layoff that many instructors and not affect student to faculty ratio and quality of teaching.

These budget cuts are brutal....and LSU is already one of the poorest funded flagship universities in the country. On top of that, Bobby Jindal has petitioned the federal government for a waiver allowing him to make even more budget cuts for higher education.

there is also a strong rumor going around that Dr. Moorhouse may not be back at LSU next year.
Anyone can make up a rumor. Frank pretty much told her to stay.

Maybe tigerdroppings could support a fund raiser. I wouldnt hesitate to give them some bucks.

I like the idea of the band doing some fundraising efforts. Putting out another CD?
Playing somewhere and encouraging the people to give donations? A web page soliciting donations?
If there is one group at LSU that can raise money it is Tiger Band.

That just sucks! I was in TB from 1884-1988.
You were that old dinosaur in Tiger Band when I was. It sucks that they let you stay in until 1988 after they imposed the 6 year rule in 1984.

So how many band personal are they talking about cutting? There's what 40 to 50 woodwinds in tigerband take the cuts there. The Ohio state marching band sounded great with all brass. Imagine a 300 member all brass and percussion tigerband. They would shake the stadium!!! Just tring to find something positive with this f up situation.

can we please just cut the band altogether and just play music on the speakers???
i guess im the only one who thinks tiger band is totally lame.
