I was in '02-'05.

I just figured with Wickes retiring, that frees up his large salary which i'm sure he's making because he's a tenured Professor.

Then, Linda would step in as Head band director. Roy stays put, and LSU just doesn't hire another assistant band director for awhile.

yes, it is behind athletics

hence it is not the Tiger ATHLETIC Foundation's problem

Their primary concern is keeping the teir one status rather than keeping the band how it is.

Roy was a non tenured faculty. All non tenured faculty and instructors were given or will be given pink slips regardless of who they were, where they taught, or how long they've been teaching at LSU.

300 have been given out now, 484 in total. Tier 1 status may have already been lost now if not it will be come july. You cannot layoff that many instructors and not affect student to faculty ratio and quality of teaching.

the band is a large part of athletics and fans will be very upset if the TAF does nothing if there was something they could do.
now, if there is nothing they can do, different story

with Wickes retiring there is no way Roy goes anywhere unless they just opt to replace him. There is absolutely NO WAY the band could run with just Moorhouse as director. Tiger Band is too large for one, then there is Bengal Brass and 3 concert bands.

The reason for the band cuts will be lack on music instructors from what I've heard. Several teachers in the music department were given their 1 year notice 2 weeks ago. I think this is a non athletics issue.

I inquired about it and thats what I was told.

Saturday at the basketball game, Roy wasn't there, Rob was leading it. Not even a grad assistant there.

really sad day.

These budget cuts are brutal....and LSU is already one of the poorest funded flagship universities in the country. On top of that, Bobby Jindal has petitioned the federal government for a waiver allowing him to make even more budget cuts for higher education.

The band members are willing to sacrifice their stipends to prevent personnel cuts, but that likely still won't be enough. It's only a mantter of time before the quality of the band begins to suffer.

Bobby needs to cut from other areas. Cutting from higher education will do NOTHING to help this state. He could be killing his own bid for re-election.

I know ZERO about the band so I have a question for those of you that were in it. What is the $1000/season for that each member gets?

Yeah they got it from the email that the Chancellor sent out about the budget cuts a couple of weeks ago.

I agree 100%. He's crippling one of the greatest resources the state of Louisiana has in LSU.

Bobby's got his eyes on a much bigger prize. He spends more time networking outside of Louisiana than he does at home. I had high hopes for the state when he got elected, but he has done nothing but disappoint most people who voted for him.

But what is the stipend for is what i was asking. Do they have to pay their own way for certain things thus giving reason to provide them with a stipend?

We have to pay for dry cleaning of the uniforms. I think it's more because we put in 15 hours or so a week and only get an hour of credit (or at least that's what my friends and I say)

Well the dry cleaning I can see them providing a stipend for that for sure. I can't believe the university doesn't have a contract to handle that. But have fun explaining the practice time for credit aspect lol. I'd be more than happy to do something I love for a college credit, especially when the group as a whole is considered the best in the land.

The money is part of the lure. Some students can have jobs, do tigerband and school at once. I can't, so if it wasn't for the stipend, I would have gotten a job and not done band. I love band, but I need money
