The state of Louisiana would never let this happen. LSU is fine.

Bwahahahahaha

yes, Tech's water polo program will definitely have any edge versus LSU within two decades.

In football, Tech will be exactly what they are now....a lower tier program in a weak arse conference.

Tech is second rate, always will be, but they've surpassed Tulane. Wouldn't be surprised to see the Greenie Weenies drop football in the next five years.

I don't mind having 2 quality universities in LA and 2 quality football programs. I look at Ole Miss and MS State, Auburn, Alabama at the same level of university. Athletic programs may be up or down any given year but that is the way things go. I do think Louisiana has way too many 4 year institutions to support the relatively small population of the state.

Terry Bradshaw already happened, and LaTech did NOT pass LSU. This is a money game, and they simply don't have it. Never will.

I don't see Tech surpassing LSU as a whole but all it takes is a good qb and I can see Tech stealing one once in a while from LSU. It happened at Alabama a year they won the SEC. It's not impossible to believe that it could happen once in a blue moon but not on a consistent basis. LSU just recruits better athletes. But what I saw last night was definitely progress. Tech is definitely not intamidated to play in big crowd environments. And remember if Tech had played LSU during the Curley Hallman years, Tech would have beaten them.

well not every school in the state could have their stadium and who knows what else bankrolled by the governor...

as for the fan base, there are around a 300,000 people living in Baton Rouge to fill up a 92000 person stadium.

Only 30,000 people in Ruston to fill up a 30,600 person stadium.... it's a lot harder for us to fill up our stadium, but don't mistake that for lack of fan support.

Will we ever pass LSU? probably not, but this team is just a step or two away from being really good, and if we can compete with the tigers as they were last night, there is no reason we can't do it again in the future.

I don't think I've ever read anything that funny or stupid on here. That definitely takes the cake.

Those are excuses. Auburn is not a huge town (50,000+) now. You don't look to Ruston to fill up your stadium but alumni and fans from all over. The state also built your stadium, yet all the additions at LSU have been built now by the fans through TAF. Tech has the Shreveport-Bossier area, but never capitalized on getting the following from there like LSU has gotten from fans across the state. People from Shreveport make the weekly trip in the fall to see the Tigers.

actually the joe was 100% privately financed (LINK ) and that site actually lists the population of ruston at around 20000 (though i doubt that includes students, another 10000). And obviously I don't have any numbers to back this, but I bet if you look at the percentage of people coming from out of town, they are pretty similar for LSU and Tech

I stand corrected about Aillet Stadium. Regarding the percentage of "out of towners" that trek to Ruston is not even close to what travels to Baton Rouge. I grew up in Shreveport and most of my friends went to Tech. On weekends, they were in Shreveport while the friends of mine that did go to LSU stayed in Baton Rouge to go to the games. Many Tech students are LSU fans but go to Tech for various reasons. I doubt you find many Tech fans at LSU who went to LSU for a program over Tech's but wish they were in Ruston on Saturdays for the gameday experience as opposed to being in Baton Rouge.

you are right about that, but in my personal (probably biased) opinion, that has a lot to do with the fact that the state pushes LSU as THE state school and all the rest are forced to play second fiddle. I know it's not something that is going to change, and I don't really expect it to, but when people call us out for having no money and no fans you have to look at why, and the why is because that is how the state wants it, and that is how the state has always wanted it.

Can Tech do some things to combat this? Sure, and they are. We are constantly expanding and Dooley has us headed in the right direction in athletics. But the fact is our alumni base is much smaller than LSUs, so we don't even have the level of support that you guys do in that area.

The state doesn't push LSU. LSU athletics stands on its own. That has been the case for a very long time now.

If Tech keeps looking to LSU like this, they will never stand on their own. The best thing for Tech to do is look at some schools like Central Florida, South Florida and UConn. What have they done to build a fan base. They are in bigger cities, but Tech should look at that.

There are problems in Louisiana having so many 4 year schools for a state that size. The way to address this is to close some of them, but no one wants to have their school closed. If there had only been one school in North Louisiana as opposed to having Tech, Northwestern, ULM and Grambling, then it would be much easier to get to the level of LSU. But none want to consolidate into one school. Consolidating those 4 schools would give you one school even bigger than LSU. That is what needs to be done, but no one is going to make that move.

Yes, LSU was blessed long before you or I were even a thought. The Tiger football program is one filled with great mystique and tradition. We do have alums all over the world that get together in the hundreds in some cities, to watch LSU football games. I grant to you that you are up against one of the most special places that is deeply loved by its alumni.

I have heard some Tech people bitch about LSU all of my life. If they had been focusing on Tech as opposed to LSU, maybe things would be different there.
