Honestly sounds like something we would sarcastically post on TD

how many ranked teams LSU beat
I think it is worth noting that neither Burrow nor Daniels ever beat a single team; LSU beat them. And anyone who thinks that "LSU" outside the QB position in '23 was even in the same stratosphere as it was in '19 is not worth conversing with.
I dgaf about "[insert great LSU player] versus [insert great LSU player]" debates mostly because I just enjoy all our great players. But also because it usually involves stupid arguments that completely ignore the fact that these are team sports where one player literally cannot win by themselves.

lol we had 2 greats in 4 years

Jayden Daniels did more with less in 2023. He had no defense and no run game other than himself

Very grateful that we got watch them both play at LSU! 2 great players!

You him give that shitshow we saw last year the record is probably the exact same compared to Daniels.
Burrow would have found a way to beat Ole Miss, and that uncalled hit from Dallas Turner would not have knocked him out of the game.
I can't believe people here are belittling how incredible Burrow was.

Newton averaged 7 more carries/game than Daniels 061.7 Vick (2000) 105.2 Newton (2010) 94.5 Daniels (2023)
You guys ALWAYS leave off the competition. The SEC West was a shell of itself Compared to 2010. The fricking defenses in the west were unreal.
Newton also didn’t have the weapons that Daniels did. Daniels had 2 first round receivers to throw to. Newton won a championship by himself.
I don’t understand why that is so fricking hard to understand.
Newton did it against one of the best if not the best LSU defensive backfield of all time.

it was a top 30 defense during the regular season lol. You just thought it was bad like most of us you were spoiled by the top 10-15 defenses that were regularly fielded by Chavis & Aranda.
GA So, NW St, UT St, and Vandy will do that. Against decent teams with an offense, it wasn’t good. UT, Bama (with a hurt Tua) come to mind.

quote:Auburn, Georgia, and A&M were not good that year? Teams with terrible offenses had field days last year against LSU Defense. Would have been nice if Jayden had a Defense hold SEC opponents to 7-17 points. Also you Bringing up UT and Bama just proves my point. If the Defense doesn’t hold those two 4th down stops in the first quarter against Texas does LSU win? Does LSU hang on to beat Bama if not for a 4th down stop, Patrick Queen interception, a Bama fumble on the opening drive in the redzone? It’s okay to admit Joe had help on the other side of the ball that made the stops and forced turnovers.

Georgia, Texas A&M,
Go back to my original post before this last one on this topic. You took this out of context. I said that there were injuries and suspensions that affected the defense that regular season. Look no further than the LB position with Michael Divinity missing multiple games during the season. Then there was the injury to Delpit and others having missed games. The defense got to clicking when they got players back and healthy during the end of the season (TAMU) and in the playoffs. I believe it would have been a top 10 defense had it not been for suspensions and injuries.
But for the record, State wasn’t mind blowing on offense and neither were Arky and Ole Miss (who’s QB ran all over than). UF had a decent offense and basically drove the ball all over the defense. Had it not been for Stingley Jr, it could have easily been a loss. It was already a tough game with UF on the goal line twice late. That was the one game I made that season in BR. Glad I picked that one!

A lot of LSU fans will not admit that because, like me frick Auburn and their cheating arse SEC refs but Newton was just so much better than everyone else including a great LSU defense. He made PP7 and company look foolish when he took off.

But Daniels' ypc average obliterated everyone and I've never seen a QB run as smoothly as he did last year. 8.4 ypc is astounding. He averaged 14.8 ypc and had 163 yards on just 11 carries against Bama and the dude was knocked out of the game with a quarter to go. Bama has never given up yards to a QB like that in their history. Hell, even in Newton's Heisman year, Bama held him to 39 yards on 22 carries. JD was phenomenal running the ball last year.
The defenses in 2023 were nowhere near those in 2010. LSU was absolutely loaded with NFL players on that side of the ball and Newton made them, including PP7 look foolish.

Mathieu
Claiborne
Minter
Nevis
Levingston

Brooks

Newton had exactly 1 NFL player that played a snap in the NFL from that team - ONE.
Newton was the most dominant overall athlete I’ve ever seen play QB in the SEC and I date back to the 1960’s.
He won that title by himself and the SEC west WAS the best division in all of college football for multiple years during that stretch. You win the west, or were UF, you were in the title game.

Who had the better season against the better defenses? The competition matters.
Burrow
Daniels

These are the numbers if Daniels has the same amount of games as Burrow. I added in the rush yardage. That's on Cam Newton, Lamar Jackson, Johnny Manziel level with significantly less carries. Burrow had elite heisman level numbers his first 12 games, but his last 3 games were pure insanity. 1405 total yards and 18 total TDs. Who's to say Daniels also doesn't enter God mode in post regular season play?
quote:LOL, you'd be wrong
And I'd love to see snap count. I suspect Daniels had significantly more snaps.
Burrow 42.8 plays per game
Daniels 38.5 plays per game
Burrow averaged a TD every 9.87 plays
Daniels averaged a TD every 9.24 plays
Based purely off statistics, Daniels was the most explosive player of all time. Daniels yards per carry and yards per attempt were isnanely stupid compared to any QB in the history of QBs. His TD per play was even better than Burrow's. It is a complete travesty that we didn't have at least a top 60 defense for him. LSU should have been 12-0/11-1 playing UGA in the SECCG.

So you’re saying Daniels would have played the same against better teams?
How many yards would he have had versus 7 Top 10 teams including the preseason top 4?
I’m just asking for a friend. The 2 teams with a defensive pulse took him out. And that was the worst Bama defense in years. Burrow put up 35 in the first half on a damn good Bama defense.
It matters who you play.

If Jayden Daniels had a competent defense, I believe he wouldn't put up better numbers than Burrow and he would've won a title to go along with his Heisman.
And had LSU had a better run game his numbers may have stayed the same or been lower in yardage & higher in completion percentage, who knows?
