He had 2 hands on the ball but he didn’t have possession. Total shite rule but, it was the right call.

He didn't have possession at the moment in this picture, the ball was still moving. Absolutely awful call and complete BS but this picture is worthless, show the video.

I don't see how that matters. We were the last team to posses it when it was ruled dead.

The ball was still moving while on the ground, I'm just talking about the moment of pic in OP. I don't even personally think it's the right call, complete BS all around, but moment OP pic is showing the player did not have full possession of the ball.

He had it secured in his hands with a knee on the ground when the Bama player slapped at it and it bobbled.

The subjective bullshite “degrees of possession” argument is a stupid one. You either possess it or you don’t.

Watch the whole play. He didn’t have possession of it before the other player was out of bounds (seriously).

Doesn’t matter. He possessed it before said out of bounds player slapped it loose. It’s a bullshite call.

immediately before his left knee hits the ground in that image, is when the ball touch (and move) occurs. Then while the ball was being bobbled, his knee is on the ground but, the ball touch had already occurred.

Refs made the right call within the boundaries of the rule. Rule is shite though.

It’s a loose ball until you establish possession. By rule, possession is established the same way for loose balls as it is for catches, the only difference being a loose ball is still live if it hits the ground.

The snapshots of him with two hands on the ball aren’t as meaningful as folks seem to think. I wish someone would post a gif instead.

I’m sure I could find a screenshot of a WR in the endzone with two hands on a football right before it gets knocked out.. doesn’t mean he had possession in the endzone, which is what is required for a touchdown.

The fact that he had a knee down means nothing until he completes the recovery. Just like it means nothing that a WR’s feet are in the endzone until he completes a catch.

I don’t really agree with it being overturned, but I also think they probably got the call right by the letter of the rule.

Stupid rule. It should be changed. If you leave the field with the ball still in play, but not in your possession, you should have to reestablish yourself back in play before you touch the ball. If you don't reestablish yourself in play, it should be a penalty for an illegal touch. Your team doesn't get to maintain the ball because you touched the ball illegally.
