Bright Spots Early On For LSU BaseballPosted by GeauxTime9
on 2/23/21 at 7:06 am

Javen Coleman looked great on the mound, happy to see a talented lefty on the bump.
Crews & Morgan look very comfortable at the plate, they do not look like freshman.
Jaden Hill looks like he is fully healthy and will deal this year.
Zach Arnold looks like he could run away with the SS position. He seems to be a true 5 tool player.
Thompson has looked great in his opportunities at 3rd. The long ball was nice, but his defense at 3rd was stellar.
What other bright spots did y'all see during the first weekend?

Edwards looked good to me. Liked the arm talent of floyd. Im not sold on Arnold as some star, but he started strong. I thought sanford and wyeth looked good

Drost has a pretty swing. Really hoping to see more of him.

Outside of 2 innings (the 9th Sunday and the 3rd Monday) the pitching was really good.

Blake Money looked good.
In fact every freshmen arm has been great thus far.

I liked Money's emotion he pitched with. Pretty nasty stuff with a hard fastball too.

Just curious why you feel this way about Arnold? I think he posses all the traits to become a star.

Not sure on his lateral quickness at short. Plus its only 2 games ive seen him. Not the most toolsy player. I think he will win the job. Not sure he will be a .300 hitter with 10 homers because of 2 games. Just not sure yet

With as many shortstops that we recruit and convert to other positions I trust that whoever wins the position will be damn good at it.

Don’t know how many years Crews has (2 or 3)..but this kid has as much of an
“It” factor as any player (especially freshman) I’ve seen.

Curious too. Is there a precedent for this even? A guy who did that who didn’t have some other kind of issue

Mac Marshall.
I’m hoping he doesn’t fwiw. Just saying it’s an option for someone who shouldn’t be in college in the first place.

I’m only bringing up another option for him.

Jackson Rutledge for Arkansas, but I think it's different for pitchers.
ETA: He left Arky after a year where he couldn't find the plate and barely pitched. Blew up the following fall and carried it enough in the spring to go pretty high.
