Brian Kelly was 25-38 against teams ranked at year's end

The only thing we learned from Kelly’s tenure here is that you can be a mediocre coach and still win 11 games with nd’s schedules.

Dont believe this one bit. He reminds me of what Les Miles did at LSU. Miles was at LSU at the perfect time . He had a direct pipeline to top talent by keeping La. players home and recruiting TX, FL, GA. He could simply out talent other teams in the SEC. There were like maybe 5 teams in the country that could keep up with this talent. The SEC was top heavy back then West : Auburn, Bama and LSU. East maybe UF and UGA. TN was terrible. He was basically given 9 wins a year because how bad most of the other teams were in the SEC.
Same goes for Freeman currently at ND just has much more talent then most their competition. You saw what happen when they ran into good teams: A&M , Miami etc. Miles was very similiar against top tier competition. Freeman and ND in the SEC or Big 10 would have at least 3 losses a year.

Best I could do. The point is that he had a low winning percentage against good teams. He was an awful coach that benefitted from ND's soft schedule. His ND teams never should have made the playoffs. Also, I think he is not an upright person.

When favored, BK had a combined winning percentage at ND and LSU of approximately 84%. For comparison Saban's was approximately 90%, Miles's was 88%.

Kelly was too old and checked out when he got here. He just wanted to see if he could manage the program into an NC. He didn't put in the work other than his first year here. But you have to remember, ND was a crap program for years when he took it over. He did build their program into a very consistent winner and he did put Cincy football on the map making them into a consistent winner too (easy schedule or not, they both sucked before him and he had regular undefeated seasons with both schools).

He still won here, but we were clearly getting worse without a star QB. He didn't have the mindset needed to compete with these younger coaches for championships in the NIL era. But he did have some obvious good success in his career. It was perfect timing for us to get rid of him though. Just glad we got Bama 22 out of him. Will always be remembered as one of the most epic atmospheres/finishes in Tiger Stadium history.

His 4 year record at LSU 34-14 (19-10)

His record against teams ranked at year's end is the question before us. He was a combined 25-38 while at LSU and ND based on my research. I could be off slightly.

Miles had a lot of issues, but he had a solid record against ranked teams, something like a .650 winning percentage against teams ranked at the time of the game. Can't find a stat for teams ranked at seasons end. Regardless, there are reasons to fault Miles, but preparing his team to play tough opponents is something he actually did pretty consistently.
