Brennan didn't make a "me" decision. He is done with the sport totally. He didn't hit the portal without a coaching change or in the middle of a season. He didn't get an "injury" and get ready for the league.

He stayed when he had all right to leave. Competed. Realized he was done with it ALL, and stepped away.

Pretty sure you can see what the difference is.

Chase, Stingley, and others opt and receive backlash. Boutte thought about leaving, has not opted out, yet some crucify him.
because people believed those players could help the team by staying and playing. The same cannot be said of Brennan...

I truly believe it is a free country and if someone wants to quit and do something else or attend a different school then they are free to do so. I just think anyone who “opts out” should have their scholarship, housing, meal plan, trainers all removed. A football scholarship is, in fact, a contract for them to participate in team activities and compete FOR the school. If they want to pay tuition like all the other students then great, go to class and get a degree young man.

Also laughing at this “stepping away from” concept. Calling someone a “quitter” is mean, I guess. Sean Payton says in same breath “I am stepping away from football but I am definitely not done with it”. So, he was quitting his job with the New Orleans Saints… just can’t say that for some reason

I have no problem with Chase and Brennan since the season hadn’t started.
I have a problem with all these third year players with high draft stock that say
they want to play that suddenly have all the “nagging injuries” that last all season,
but miraculously are always healed by the tim combines start. If you don’t want to play, then leave the team so they can move on and not be waiting on you to “heal”

C’mon, you know why

I know why. I don’t think you do.

It’s the same reason Nussmeier was killed on this board for opting out of the Bowl game.

Right or wrong, self centered decisions that negatively impact the team are going to receive criticism. It’s not unreasonable.

It’s funny that this topic confuses you so much. It’s hard to get away from deep rooted emotional grievances.

Yep, and he quit because of it.

It’s an objective fact that Brennan quit. And there is plenty of room to criticize him for it. Nobody really cares though because him quitting is evidence that he wasn’t going to help this team anyway.

It's obvious- Brennan was not going to see the field and the others were starters

Is there a Bizarro TD that I don't know about?

Revisionist history. Chase and Stingley were crucified. It was people here saying both Marshall and D. Smith should be taken ahead of Chase in the draft and Stingley should be a second rounder.

Chase was smart to opt out

Jamarr Chase makes it official

More of a case for Chase opting out.

What are your feelings about Stingley?

It’s the same geez ! Stingley opted out because he could’ve lost millions if gotten hurt and y’all call him a quitter and give him hell . MB quits and omg he’s a true tiger , bleeds purple and gold . That’s not right at all

Nobody cared when TJ transferred because he wasn't good. People were not happy with Max because he was the starter and went to Texas 8&4

Brennan was never a SEC QB

I'm not sure there will ever be a QB room with no actual SEC caliber starters that racks up as many SEC starts as the one at LSU in 2020.

I see quitting pre-season or off-season as far more palatable than mid-season.
