Last year Myles still had jittery feet in the pocket. It’s great to have a QB competition at a high level

Am I the only one who legitimately doesn’t care who wins the job? Either way, the starter will have beaten out a legit starter caliber QB which means they will be good.

Bottomline. Max is better because he opens more of the playbook for Peetz because Max has better all around physical tools. But Brennan will probably start.

The only tool that Max has over Peetz is athleticism, and LSU has never been a QB running team. Even when Max played last year, his runs were never designed runs. I would argue that Brennan opens up more of the playbook because he is a much better vertical passer.

If anything, Max's athleticism has been to his detriment on occasion when he looks to run from the pocket way too quickly.

I expect Brennan to start unless for some reason he just isn't back to his self from last year post injury but his leash will be super small

Agree.

I also expect Johnson to play some regardless, likely in the redzone or in situations a running QB would be an asset. Heck, he may even get a series each half just because.

i have said for a while that the advantage Brennan has will be the fact that he has graduated already. he will be a full time football player. time to spend in the video room braking down defensive tendencies.
say what??? You think just because a guy has graduated that they don't have to go to class anymore to stay eligble???

They have to enroll in grad school and be a full time student, for god sake.

Burrows option to do run/pass/QB run was what made that RPO lethal.

For some unbeknownst reason there is a huge faction of TD users that are minimalist thread counters. My hypothesis is that they read every single word on here, and redundant threads make their days longer.

Well with that kind of in-depth analysis, how can we argue?

If it's QB stats that are important, then Myles is the guy.

Those stats are pretty but if you watch the Missouri game, Brennan struggled on third down and on the goal line.

Do you look at any other position outside of QB when rewatching these games?

Yes, Myles struggled at times on 3rd down and goal-line because our offensive line played God awful in both the MSU and Mizzou games. As the season went on they got better which makes Max look better. Myles had to pull something out of his arse too many times because opposing linebackers basically had free blitzes on him. This is a team sport and Myles was not the problem that game.

Also, go back and watch the Mizzou goal-line stand at the end of the game.
1. Our OL got no push forward to help TDP.
2. The play calling was Les Miles era predictable and vanilla.
3. Because the blocking up front was so poor, it forces us to have to use our RB and TE's as blockers so his options to throw to are much more limited.

slow down capt. it is much less pressure when you have completed your undergrad degree, and are not interested in completing whatever post-grad classes you may take. since your only goal is to remain eligible.

The thing you Myles supporters, who always insist that Myles has a better arm than not only Max Johnson but also Joe Burrow, all over look, is that being a good QB is not only about arm talent. As it's more about having the entire package

Which is why Joe Burrow started over Myles Brennan and it is also the reason why Max Johnson will start over Myles Brennan.

As Myle's arm may be slightly marginally better than Max's arm, but Max's full package has substantially far more to offer relative to Myle's full package.

It's not only about arm talent, which is only marginally better relative to Max. Instead, it's about the full package and Max's full package has far more to offer Jake Peetz, relative to Myle's full package.

This.

Can we wait at least until the starter is named and then chime in. This has gotten stale. Does anyone in here really care what any OP has to say about who should be the starter?

IMHO Myles is more talented at the moment, Max fits better.

Myles may have the marginally better arm of the two, but having a good arm is only one aspect of being a good QB. As it is more about who has the fullest package and Max's full package surpasses Myle's full package.

If only marginally better arm talent is the full criteria, then yeah, Myles is the starter.

However, arm talent is only one aspect of being a good QB. It's about mobility, it's about making quick decisions, about running the ball, eluding the rush, etc., etc., etc., and Max's overall toolbox far surpasses Myle's overall toolbox.
