Boutte really wasn't a factor until Marshall left, either. I thought they did a nice job of making things easier on Max and Kayshon though. You could see more sophistication when Brennan was throwing to Marshall, but that's to be expected with upper classmen.

I’m going to go out on a limb here and say whoever the starter is half the fan base will be upset and some will never give that QB a chance.

Going from Marshall/Gilbert to Boutte/koy moore/kole Taylor was a huge drop off of talent

Its LSU, so once the starter is named, everyone will immediately pine for the backup.

It definitely doesn’t translate to the field.

Brady's offense was a split of joe moorheads rpo offense and the saint's wco.

It's not either or.

Boutte won the Ole Miss game.

1st Td he takes a 5 yards cross to the house for 32 after running through a shoestring tackle
2nd TD he was open by about 20 yards.
3rd TD he takes a 12 yard pass 45 to the house to take the lead. Breaks 2 tackles to get free and then drags a defender into the end zone.

Boutte had 437 yards reciting against Alabama, Florida and Ole Miss and he also had a 50 yard catch against Alabama called incomplete when it clearly wasn’t.

Let’s not pretend Boutte was playing like a beast.

Because Brennan was better than Johnson last year by a considerable amount. He put up better numbers against better defenses with more responsibility on his shoulders

I think Brennan played well, but I didn't see where he was considerably better. I think he had some struggles in key situations too.

Neither played great defenses. I believe Myles' starts came against teams with an average of #85 defensively and Johnson's opponents were 95th.

Myles completed 60% of his passes and Johnson completed 58% of his passes. Myles accounted for 11 TDs and 3 INTS and Max accounted for 10 TDs to 1 INT.

You also have to remember though that Myles had a full offensive arsenal. Johnson went 2-0 as a starter without our best and most experienced offensive player in Marshall, without the #1 TE (and our 2nd-leading WR at the time) and without the top two RBs. LSU winning those last two games was an extreme long shot, but Max Johnson, Boutte and others stepped up and made it happen.

Brennan had Gilbert and Marshall. Boutte wasn't getting the reps and specific play calls until Marshall left.

I understand that but the point still remains.

Boutte was still getting snaps during brennan's time.

Says the guy that just learned they deduct sack yards from rushing totals lol

Why does Max even have sack yardage? Are you admitting that your scrambling QB doesn't seem to avoid the sack?

Doesn't really help your case very much, now does it?

Just because you are getting snaps doesn't mean a ton. Plays are designed to go to specific players. I know you know that. Boutte was the third option at best for Myles. A placeholder on the field if you will. He had 8 receptions for 101yds in three games. Nothing special.

By the end of the season he had moved into WR1 role, with routes specifically being designed for him, and other players like Koy and Jenkins being the placeholder on the field that he once was.

I'm not denying that Miles didn't have better weapons because he did. But Boutte at the end of the season is a completely different player than Boutte at the beginning.

And I still think it needs to be mentioned that the OL play for Max was much better than it was for Myles. Doesn't matter how many WRs you have if you have no running game and no time to get them the ball.

I think its more the Saints offense, using RPO instead of play action to open up the passing game, but I dont think anyone's arguing he didnt influence Brady. So did Emsminger as I mentioned earlier. Lester was literally arguing that Brady's offense cant be fully utilized without a running QB because his scheme is Morehead's. Than argued with me for 70 pages about shotgun snap rates. All of those plays are in SP's playbook too, by the way. The bottom line is; there will be plays Brennan can execute that Max cannot and vice versa. And we probably shouldnt fool ourselves into thinking Peetz wont put his own stamp on things, either.

Max only had boutte.

Boutte at the beginning of the year was NOTHING like at the end of the year. He was a freshman who blossomed as the year went along.

Also, Gilbert sucked! I mean, he was really terrible. He certainly has a high ceiling, but I think we would have been a lot better with him on the bench.

No one has anywhere close to the agility of Boutte. He's more in the mold of the Bama WRs that can take a crossing route and house it on any play. Once he got comfortably it was easy to see why he was so highly ranked. Marshall is a big, vertical threat. Different skill sets, but both very dangerous.

I wish Taylor was used instead of Carter when Gilbert got hurt against Mizzou. That throw would have been just above chest high and my money would be on Taylor making the catch.

There were three reasons why Max was the third option and not the second.

Well, Gilbert is certainly more talented than Kole Taylor (who I think is very good), but Terrace Marshall is far less talented than Boutte. Boutte would be a top 10 pick if he came out after THIS year.
