You aren’t asking a player to “step up” in this case, you’re asking him to sacrifice an entire year of eligibility for one game.

Nah, you're asking a perfectly healthy kid not to watch from the sidelines while his teammates gets their asses kicked. I don't know how anyone in the lockeroom could respect him.

It was dumb of Nuss to pass up this opportunity to play in front of a national audience and his new coach. If you aren't careful, opportunity passes you by before you know it...

Having said that, I'm glad Kirklin got to shine the way he did.

"There wasn't anybody else," LSU interim head coach Brad Davis said. "We're from South Louisiana, we fight 'til the end. I was taught that from the time I was a little boy: you finish what you started."

My hats off to Brad Davis. He was given a huge challenge and he showed up with the boys and did what he could do. Fans from both teams bought tickets and this was the last football game some guys on both teams will ever play, so although it was tough to watch at times, I'm glad we showed up and fought with whatever we had. That's character.

The fact that you don't know he was a great college QB is more of an indictment on you.

I will never agree with this. It mattered to the players who played last night. Playing and winning is a big deal.

I didn't want to allow that to happen, so we did everything we could to protect him. I also, again, thought that as coaches we could put together a plan that would allow Jontre to lead us to victory."

He will be a head coach one day and I would be happy for my son to play for him. I learned a lot about BD through this process and he is extremely impressive!

I agree with Coach Davis assessment. IMO, some the ambiguous tweets LSU put out leading up to the game about the QBs made this situation worse.

Absolutely they did. I wasn’t thrilled about it once I saw Jontre trot out there. Kinda set us up to be more pissed off.

Coach O created this situation by playing him against Arkansas because some fans said he should.

Fvck that kid. If he thinks he needs 4 more years of college to get to the NFL, then he sucks anyway. He just wants an extra year to parachute out when he gets beat out by Howard.

Nuss was thrown into a terrible system run by a terrible OC in his true freshman year.

He’s a true freshman. I don’t understand why it’s so hard for you WalMart fans to understand that true freshman QBs come in and play like Heisman contenders. Especially handcuffed by the OC. I’m sure someone will bring up the outliers that are Alabama or Oklahoma who are coached by the best QB coaches in the game to try to balance your argument but they’re exceptions, not the rule. 95% of true freshmen QBs play like true freshmen. Nuss plays with a chip on his shoulder and I love it. I hope he turns out great for LSU and im not stupid enough to believe he will never play a down based off of 20 passes his freshman year.

Nussmeir will never start for LSU baring injuries.

The value of this one game didn’t outweigh the value of a potential full year in the future. It doesn’t even matter right now if that comes at LSU, somewhere else, or if he never uses it. At this particular moment, we don’t have that foresight. But it’s in the players best interest to give him the extra year if at all possible. It would be very short-sighted to waste that year on a game that had very little bearing on anything else.

Nuss should have played and won the job or redshirtrd next year. To think kirkin was good enough to win the game is one of the dumbest things I've every heard. I hope that was coach speak.

It's hard to watch a guy that you know could help you sit on the sideline in uniform while your team gets demolished, and I'm sure it was even harder for Nuss.

But he and his family made a decision to prioritize an entire season over one game. When you stop being so emotional, and remove yourself from the moment a little, it's a lot easier to understand.

Because I'm sure in his mind, he is competing to win the job. And if he doesn't, there is a good chance he is the backup to a guy who has never stayed healthy.

Come on. I wanted Nuss to play last night but burning your redshirt to play in the SECCG and to play in the Taxslayer Bowl when you're 6-6 are two completely different things.

Yeah, because the sec championship game and the meaningless Texas bowl are the exact same scenarios
