Blast from the past- Dale Brown goes after TN player after Hack-a-Shaq

Daddy Dale didn't put up with shite. Awesome video clip of him taking up for Shaq. Dale was ready to throw with the TN player if the ref hadn't held him back.
From 1992 SEC tournament. Tigers won 99-89.

I remember that. Dale Brown was an awesome coach in my opinion. Good memories.

Imagine if ULL would’ve done hack some Hack a Shaw stuff against us last year. Will Wade would’ve kicked some arse
He was fired up already

Will would've beaten the ever-living shite out of that POS ULL coach.

The Shaq and Dale was on the other. I could watch that once a week.
One of the best moments from it.

Bob Knight, Indiana basketball coach, responding to a story in which Lousiana State Coach Dale Brown took some shots at him, recalled last season's Midwest Regionals in which LSU led Indiana, 75-66, with only four minutes left. "It didn't look good," Knight said. "In fact, my assistants had just about given up, and so had I. Then I looked down toward the other bench, and I saw Dale Brown standing there. I knew then that we had a chance."

I remember that game when it was played. That outburst by Shaq was just the tipping point from that year when they abused him all year to keep him down. I am surprised that Shaq didn't go off earlier in the year. Because he couldn't shoot free throws that is how they defended him because he was unstoppable any other way.

He was, but that was the incident that should have prompted him to retire. The Sarg. made some public negative remarks about Brown which became an obstacle to his recruiting. The program started to deteriorate and all the good things Brown did for LSU soon disappeared like foot steps in the sand. We were turned down by a few mediocre coaches, even the Ole Miss coach said no thanks. Then the job was given to Brady.

Wade could learn some recruiting tactics from Daddy Dale.

Wade doesn't strike me as a very good fighter. Now coach O looks pretty tough

That’s awesome. I have no memory of that though.

Yeah, there were a few things Dale said in that piece that were total BS, but the biggest was the part where he told Shaq his Dad got in his business once and he told him off and never had any trouble with the Sarge again. That was laughable for all who were around back then.

You know that story came from the Elite 8 right? Great coach.

I have that memory. Dale should have waited after the game. Shaq was suspended the next day against UK and should not have been.
Alan Houston was not thrown out of that game and should have been.

I have it on VHS. I have watched it plenty.
Andre Patillo was the head ref but John the a-hole Clougherty (one of the worst, most notorious SEC refs) was in the crowd serving under some BS capacity. He got involved and ultimately he and Patillo's crew threw out Shaq, Vernel, Boudreaux...who did nothing, Jamie Brandon, Mo Williamson, and some bench player. UT lost Groves, Jay Price, and 2 Bench players.
Horrific. They suspended Shaq for "fighting". Meanwhile Vernel took a shot at Groves and clearly you see Brandon and Price poorly shadowboxing in the Malay. Alan Houston visibly chokes Mo Williamson (toward the end). It was crazy. LSU beat UK soundly that year and gave it their best shot the next day. Geert did his best, but Shaq he was not.
