This is a ridiculously overused excuse for something like base running. He's a freshman in college so he's only been playing baseball for roughly 14 years. Base running doesn't change ever.

You are correct! However, the fundamentals is taught through coaching. Since Paul has been at LSU we continuously have these gaffs with various players. It’s not like the same players or committing these errors every year. It’s coaching the basics, being fundamentally sound, not beating themselves.

Paul seems more concerned in building his coaching tree by surrounding himself with former players as yes men versus developing players. As for stretching a base hit into extra base, that is why there is a base running coach at first and third. There may very well be some shared responsibility on base running.

Again it’s about being fundamentally sound, these things have been issues since Paul has been at LSU. It’s time for Paul to move on.

Red Auerbach said reason why his teams always made clutch plays was because they drilled them in practice.

1 poor base running mistake I would blame the player

When there is multiple base running mistakes in one game and throughout the season, I blame the coaches

You have to get more than 6-7 innings out of your starters when you play 21 innings of baseball.

It was just a few years ago that LSU set the record for most people gunned down with poor base running, including being thrown out at home.

This isn't something new and exciting under CPM. This is very common and is inexplicable.

Yeh the OP lays out MULTIPLE base running mistakes in a single series in his post, yet says it isn’t coaching

When you have a team making the same types of mistakes by multiple different players, that’s the definition of a coaching problem

This isn't wrong, but it's also not really why we lost the series.

Outside of two coaching decisions with the pitchers (calling 60000 fastballs in a row with Vietmeier and pitching to Mendoza), we pitched well enough to win both games.

The only base running blunder that wasn’t Paul’s fault was Garza missing second base.

Every other out on the bases is a direct result of Paul’s philosophy. We do this every year. It has happened all this season as well. Did you guys not watch similar mistakes against Vandy in the SECT?

It’s a constant pattern. It’s 100% Paul’s fault.

As a player your head has to be in the game and you know better if you can make it then some third base coach trying to win a game on one play.

It was a whole team lose. Coach made bad calls. Players made bad plays. I don’t blame any one person.

It's both players and coaches fault but the coaches coach the players so it's more their fault. But it really don't matter now bring on football season

Paul’s roster construction has kept LSU from Omaha. To think you get an unprecedented numbers of guys to spurn pro baseball and come back to school, and you fail to have any fricking left handed pitchers on the roster, and only one consistent right handed hitter all year.

Paul failed these kids and it’s inexcusable. Team was behind the 8 ball from the jump, despite having national championship level talent at just about every spot.

Sorry, base running has been an issue all year. Players make mistakes but this weekend showed a trend of a lack of discipline. He should have went off on them Augie style after the game Saturday followed by base running practice in the Box. A little public humiliation can go a long way.
