These decisions by our players went against everything they have been taught since they were little leaguers.

So many poor choices from the weekend to pick from. Missing bases, stretching plays you have no business trying to stretch, and you sure as hell don't wander off 3B and fall asleep and get snapped.

Of all the things you should have to worry about as a D1 head coach, your players acting like 12 year olds on the basepaths shouldn't be one of them.

No doubt, Watson should have known better. Gio is a freshman, third base coach didn't keep him from wandering apparently. Don't know how Garza missed second, unreal.

For baserunnings blunders that you don't even see on a kid's travelball team, you are damn right I blame them.

Garza should've called for an intentional walk also

It's obvious situational base running is a coaching after thought. Should be something drilled into their heads during fall ball.

Almost as if they could have been coached better.

Baserunning has been poor under Mainieri for a while now. It's hard to see how it's not his fault.

Having a third base coach that's never actually run the bases doesn't help either.

Man I hear you but attention to detail at all levels is what differentiates good coaches from great ones. Again I think CPM has had a fantastic career and deserves his hall of fame billing, but it’s not fair to say he isn’t accountable for his team’s lack of discipline on the bases.
At the end of the day, he picks the roster, sets practice schedule, disciplines players, sets the lineups, and makes in game decisions. If the results aren’t there, the buck has to stop with him.
BTW- that’s exactly how good leaders like it. CPM is a good leader. If he adjusts to the reality in front of him- he’s still got it. If he chooses to stand pat- then I’d have to say he’s lost IT.

We had poor base running issues last year too. It is all coaching. 3rd base coach should have full awareness of the situation.

There is no reason for Watson to get to 2nd. With 1 out and runner on third, we might have won that game.

And we have a 3rd base coach who was doing what when his player got too far off 3rd and was picked off?

I mean wtf was he doing? Eating a hot dog? Daydreaming?

If that's the best we can get out of the assistant coaches, wholesale changes are needed.
