Can’t wait to see Lagway and Vandy’s QB lightbus up. It’s going to be hilarious to watch

Its not as easy as just spying.

Our safeties struggle. The closer to the line the quicker your reactions have to be. Our safeties were taking wrong angles all night. They would have been worse playing up in the box.

That Missouri defense was way more talented than us, and JD ran all over them.

I think it is clear that a huge flaw in Baker as a DC is a running QB. At Mizzou, JD5 killed him on the ground more than anything and now you have The A&M backup and Milroe.

I think this is fair. It’s a consequence of his style of defense. When you run an aggressive defense - lots of man coverage, DL shooting gaps, high blitz% - a QB with good running ability can really hurt you. Either you have him for a loss, or he’s burning you. There’s not a whole lot of in-between. It’s kind of the opposite of Aranda’s style.

That said, while I think that’s probably the weakness of Baker’s philosophy I don’t think it means we will never have success against a running QB. It’s just kind of feast or famine. If you’re making the plays in the backfield, you smother them. We also need better safety play to stop the bleeding when guys like Milroe do get loose.

Exactly. They even talked about it Saturday on one of Milroe's TD runs. They overloaded the right side and the play call for Milroe was to the left. It happens.

Ya think?

Late in the game they finally started putting a hat (sometimes 2-3) to take him out of the equation. Somehow it took 3.5 quarters for that to make sense.

Bama dominated both lines of scrimmage, dip.

Look, I'm not saying our defense is good but they are a lot better than last year. I think Baker is limited by the talent.

I agree but Kelly has 3 recruiting classes under him. When does he start getting some speed.

You say bad coaching but I can show you on film Weeks overrunning the gap and Milroe cutting and running for a TD. At some point the players have to make plays. We get a bad call on 3rd and goal for TD, People say well they would have went for it on 4th down an gotten it. How do you know. We stopped them on 4th and 1 later. And then our center lets a LB blitz go right past him and Nuss fumbles the ball in red zone. Boom down by 14. I am not convinced Baker and Davis and raymond have all of a sudden forgotten to coach. And yes they are responsible for getting the players but they are getting the players. WE have a lot of freshmen playing on defense nad have mors 5* coming in 2025. I think you will see a completely different defense the next 2 years as we will have more talent and depth.

The LSU defense, while better than last year, is not good enough to win a game without help from the offense.

Vanderbilt beat Alabama because they had the ball on offense for over 42 minutes.

It’s hard for an offense to score when their arse is sitting on the bench.

Its not all on Baker. Burns, Gilbert and Penn have no business on the field. It's more about the players not doing there jobs.

I don't just blame the coaching staff. Players have to make plays. It goes to everyone.

I kind of agree, but I also think this offense is severely limited by heavy rain. Not saying that is an excuse, we should be able to play in rain or shine, but playing your biggest game in a downpour is just terrible luck.

Explain to me how you fire a guy as your LB coach then a year or so later hire him as your DC? BGB is an idiot.

Same thing happened last year, we just don't have the personnel and depth NOW to defend these types of QBs, the cavalry's coming though

We don't tackle well as a team. We are a little better than last year, but compared to an avg college defense, we are below avg at tackling.

How fast are our LB? I wonder how much this is a problem with mobile QB.

We also don't set the edge very well. on a couple of the TD, you can see the edge guy go with the fake and give up contain on his side. this is basic defense.

We need to execute the basics better to stop running QB. tackle better 1:1. set the edge.
