the ability to go one on one in coverage and then turn around and intercept a ball is the most elite thing a CB can do.

it’s why Stingley was a top 3 pick.

usually you are there and you’re making the QB look elsewhere/making it hard for the WR to catch the ball, or adjust to the throw.

you’re rarely picking off or even deflecting g a well throw. ball like that.

i mean even the best cornerbacks ever get beat on a perfect throw and catch. Derek stingley gave up 200 yards to devonta smith during his dominant freshmen season cause Tua had pinpoint accuracy. Your gonna give up some plays at db its about competing and being in position to make plays

He was caught napping once and Stingley let up on the other. Tua had a wide open guy on two bombs.

It’s sad LSU hasn’t had shut down corners in at least four years

We were fine with Mekhi Garner & Bernard-Converse in 2022. Unfortunately, didn’t get as lucky with the portal last year.

Thanks to Orgeron for making us dependent on the transfer portal

Fine won't win you the SEC. If you want fine then you are content with the last 4 years and this years secondary.

This is why recruiting matters and we haven't recruited the secondary worth a shite in 5 years.

Haven’t even played a game yet. Some of you are miserable folks.

You said the same thing the last 4 years and the secondary was exactly what people warned you about. Some of you refuse to live in reality.

Stamps
Toviano
Dashawn Spears (McBryde)
Ju’juan Johnson
PJ Woodland

Welch & Denver Harris were underwhelming last year

ETA: idk why you keep throwing out 4-5yrs when it’s year 3 with BK.

The secondary was awful last year. Never said it wasn’t.

The season hasn’t even started yet and you are crying about the secondary. Once the season starts if it goes bad again, by all means complain.

I will just never understand people who make themselves miserable before a game is played. But to each their own.

The defense was awful last year and we barely got any new talent that can step in immediately to fix it. New coaches are great but this isn’t a year one turnaround.

Wasn’t it like Van Jefferson or something like that?

I’ll be honest, I was very impressed with Stamps. We didn’t have a single DB turn their head to look for the ball last year, I’ll take giving up a catch when you’re fighting for the ball like that.

Last I checked the DBs weren't the fricking problem in 2022

Our losses were;
FSU - Offense couldn't get going
Tennessee - Same as above
A&M - Lack of depth let them gash us in the run game
Georgia - Severely outmatched talent wise

There was one or two plays like that, but most of the time Devonta had two steps on Stingley.

No coach speak is “I think we will be much improved in the secondary this year. The young guys are impressive so far”

Kelly is pretty much telling it like it is and saying the secondary is more than likely going to struggle again this year. Which is exactly what i was expecting. Especially if Major Burns is on the field. Or Sage.

don't know why you're getting downvoted, because you're correct.

Too many on this board drink the Kool Aid and can't think rationally about LSU football. The offense should be very good, but clearly not the same as last year, when Daniels' legs bailed us out many times.

And your post about our defense is accurate. Our DL and secondary aren't going to be good enough.

I hope I'm wrong, but I don't think I am.
