He shite the bed three times in ND. 2013, 2018, and 2020.

He obviously had the talent to get there and shite the bed each time.

99% of coaches never win a natty.

This needs some clarification. Jo-Pa had three undefeated seasons and three more 1-loss seasons before he won his first natty. PSU was an east coast independent school and got little respect in national polls then.

Yeah, they didn't play anyone. They were the Boise St of their time. Go look at their schedules in those seasons where they "got no respect"

When they started scheduling better, he won his first title with a one loss season. But they played Alabama, Nebraska, Pitt, Notre Dame, UGA, etc, so they earned it

Were they objectively more talented than Bama in 2012? Than Clemson in 2018? Alabama in 2020?

So your reasons to hate him are that he lost 3 times to the eventual national champion with less talent?

I didn’t say he had less talent. I don’t hate him. I just dont see him winning a NC at LSU.

No fricking shite. The odds of any coach winning a national championship are super low.

This. Very few coaches will ever win a championship.

There are only 3 active coaches with a championship right now: Kirby Smart, Dabo Swinney, and Mack Brown.

Wait til you find out that only THREE active D1 coaches have ever won a title.

You ‘we either win a championship or our season is shite’ people are insufferable. I honestly have no clue how any of y’all are ever satisfied.. was the Joe Burrow year the only time you were ever happy with LSU football?

I get it. We’ve underperformed this year. But to act like Kelly is a complete failure is stretching the truth a little. Some of y’all take it too far. Part of being a fan I guess

And besides all that, after these past few months of bitching and crying from y’all, I haven’t seen one of you complainers give me one name of someone realistic that could come in here and GUARANTEE you a title. Not one of y’all

FTR, I am as non-woke as one can get.

The OP's premise is that BK has crossed the coaching-age Rubicon for winning a natty.

That has been challenged along several lines:
a) Multiple other coaches have won their first natty after comparable durations.
b) Most coaches are not at schools where they can realistically compete for nattys so it's premature to say BJ can't since he's never been at school where he could until '22.

If he retires from LSU without having won one, you'd have a point. This is the first time in his career he's been at a place where you have a reasonable shot to win a natty.

Notre Dame is most certainly a place where you have a reasonable shot at a title. I mean he made it to the playoffs, if you make it to a four team playoff you have a reasonable shot.

The amount of spin and “context” which on the Rant just means pure bias and double standards btw, in this thread is hilarious. The copium addicts are always good for a laugh.

Making the playoffs and winning a title are two entirely different things. Michigan State, Cincinnati, and TCU have made the playoffs also.

The chances of winning a national title in D1 football as a HC are not good.

Since 2006 only 9 different head coaches have won a national title. That’s 18 years and only 9 head coaches have won it. Take that with all the colleges entering each season and coaching changes…odds are not good to win one as a head coach.

Have Michigan State, Cincy, and TCU won 11 national titles? Are they considered one of the handful of blue blood cfb teams? It's absolutely ridiculous to think that ND is a school where you don't have a shot to win a championship with.

Yale has 27.

ND won 7 NC before 1950 and haven’t won one since 1988.

ND has won 10+ games 10 times since 1993. Brian Kelly has 7 of them.

He’s also only been head coaching at one program who has the potential to win a national championship. Notre Dame isn’t that program anymore realistically.

He hasn’t “tanked the program” in any way so far so he’s got at least one or two more years to prove something to me before I call it quits on him. But if we don’t at the very least make the playoffs by then, I can’t defend him any longer.

No. No it isn’t. Not in today’s college football landscape. They have far too high entry standards to get enough top players to realistically have a shot. Could they luck out one year? Sure. With a super star QB they could maybe manage it,but the odds are not in their favor.
