If I could have met up with Chavis, I would have punched him in the face for mailing it in for that game. Other than the Alabama loss in the National Championship game, that was the most upset I ever was after a loss. UCLA and Wisconsin are close behind.

Our whole group was so mad that we didn't even go out after the game. One of the Evil Twins almost broke the front passenger door off of our rental car because he slammed it so hard... lol

The worst coached game by Miles that i saw in person was the Wisconsin game in Green Bay. Was a total F.U.

Yeah and BK coached ND teams have also lost to lower talented teams and are NOTORIOUS for playing down to talent. I’m not sure Kelly is immune from this specific issue -an ND alum

Kelly has only lost once in the last five seasons to an underdog based on FPI, whereas LSU has done it 10+ times over that stretch, so while he might not be immune to it, Kelly’s W-L record against lesser teams the last few years has been objectively much better than LSU’s.

No that's not what happened.

Malik got the start and they played a full back all game. They had to based on injuries and disciplinary issues.

Kelly then benched Malik when he was the superior leader to play deshon kizer, who was good, but any ND fan will tell you that was malik's team and the decision to stick with kizer pissed off over half the team.

Unless I am thinking of the wrong game….Didn’t ND win that game on a last play blown coverage and a missed tackle?

Horrible loss, but I don’t know if anyone has mentioned it yet. That field was a goddamn disgrace and was all torn up by the middle of the first quarter. Do that really neutralized LSU’s speed advantage a good bit.

Horrible loss, but there is definitely a bit of an asterisk.

That was the Citrus Bowl a few years later. And it was more terrible tackling than a coverage issue.

Yes but in that same past five years, 2017 Navy, 2018 Ball State, 2018 Vandy, 2020 Louisville, and most painfully 2021 Toledo (32-29!!) were way closer than need be. ND won those 5 games against non-Power 5 (+Vandy cuz come on) by a margin of 5.6 points. And those were mostly playoff contending teams barely beating teams they should have demolished… Outside of Troy, I can’t remember LSU struggling that much against VASTLY inferior opponents. So idk, even as someone who’s been a big BK fan these past 5 years as I attended ND, I’m still just skeptical that LSU will somehow magically not play down to talent.

“Part of playing Malik (Zaire) and starting him was to try and find out how we were going to utilize him in the game and how to construct playing two quarterbacks,” Kelly said . “I think we can move forward and begin looking at that and how we can construct that.”

So, BK has experience mixing up the offense with a strong passer and a dual threat running QB.

Suggests both Nuss and Daniels will play this year … not necessarily a two-QB system splitting time in a game, but more of the opposition has to prepare for both not knowing which one BK plans to emphasize in any given game.
