2007 Roster

QB - Flynn and Perriloux
RB - Jacob Hester, Charles Scott, Keiland Williams, Richard Murphy
WR - Byrd, Lafell, Doucet, Toliver
OT - Ciron Black and Carnell Stewart
OG - Lyle Hitt and Herman Johnson
C - Brett Helms
TE - Richard Dickson and Keith Zinger

2019

QB - Burrow
RB - CEH, John Emery Jr., Tyrion Davis-Price
WR - Chase, Jefferson, Marshall Jr.
OT - Charles and Decalus
OG - Lewis and Magee
C - Cushenberry
TE - Sullivan and Moss

I think Burrow will be able to hang his out right there with the QBs of 07 after this year. We have more raw talent at RB now, but that 2007 squad was talented, tough, and experienced. Advantage 2007.

Our receivers are again young, but I think the top-end talent is equal or better than 07. Lafell and Doucet headlined that group and both played in the league. Byrd could absolutely take the top off the defense. Jefferson is statistically on track to be better than most of this group and the talent overall seems like an NFL group. Sullivan should be able to put up as good or better numbers than Dickson in 07. Advantage - 2019.

The tackles from 2007 were super solid. People didn't like Carnell much back then, but I don't really remember him costing us many games. Herman and Ciron were monsters. Cush leads the group in 2019, and Charles might end up being a 4 year starter. The talent is there, but this will be the year the 2019 group proves if they belong. Advantage - 2007 (for now).

It's REALLY close actually - if 2019 meets expectations I think there's a chance we look back and say this group was better.

QB - Give the NC winner the benefit of the doubt for now, call it a push, but likely nod to 19 as it plays out
RB - 07
WR/TE - 19
OL - 07 for now but wide range of outcomes, 19 could meet or surpass

Which? I don’t understand which team you are referring to with this comment.

Until Emery breaks out and makes you rethink that comment.

Great analysis. Few notes:
- I don't think Will Arnold played much if at all in '07. He had some sort of injury that never would heal. Hitt played RG.
- Perrilloux was a great compliment to Flynn. I give a slight edge at QB to '07 because of this.
- Apart from Early, our WRs were an unknown. Byrd was a JC transfer, Toliver a Tr Fr, LaFell a soph with some experience but had the WORST case of the drops ever in '07.

If Emery lives up to hype, then edge to '19.

even if so, LSU had 5 guys regularly rotating at RB in 07. Hester, Scott, Keiland, Holliday, Richard Murphy. We simply do not have that kind of depth at that position this year. Our receivers this year are, however, much much deeper.

Murphy was seldom used and Trindon was not a regular in the RB rotation.

This year we have:
Emery
CEH
Tyrion
Curry
Lanard

Murphy and Trindon had 88 combined carries and 10 receptions. Curry and Lanard will not get near 98 combined touches unless Emery and Davis-Price aren’t anywhere close to what they’ve been hyped to be.

Looking at that list we were pretty much better at every position in ‘07.

Nope. Big advantage at TE for ‘07. QB, too.

Oline was better in 07, the rest matters not.

Of course if you are interested in WINNING and not just how many passes are completed, you have to consider also compare defense and special teams..

QB- 2007 because of the NC and Flynn was pretty damn good that year. Think Burrow can be really good also this year.

RB- 2007 because of NC but the ceiling is much higher for 2019

WR- 2019

OL- 2007 but we'll see how this year goes

TE- 2007 and it isn't even close
