Pokey would have been the first LSU coach to win a Natty in WBB if she had not been run off for a consensual relationship.

Any sexual relationship between a coach/educator and their athletes/students is inappropriate. There’s obviously a lot of abuse that can go wrong there and some conflicts of interest.

Agreed, my recollection was flawed.

I thought it ended up being a GA rather than a player and that the relationship continued post-coaching. Still would not be ideal but given the nature of GAs in the coaching profession it is not really an educator-student scenario.

What exactly does that mean? A better-prepared team is effectively a better-coached team, is it not? So you are saying she couldn't coach against better-coached teams?

That's like literally exactly what he said, dude. *chuckles*

You don't understand literally. That is what he implied but it is literally not what he said.

Also, why would you say that we know a coach will be outcoached by a better coach? Think about how ridiculous that sounds. Just say there were better coaches out there.

Whatever success Sue Gunter had at LSU was directly attributable to Pokey Chapman and Bob Starkey. Those two recruited and coached the teams.
what about all those years before Starkey and Chapman when she coached the US national team? Or her time at Stephen F Austin? Or her time building the LSU program?

I would argue sue gunter had two of the greatest basketball players to ever come through LSU in Walker and white. As far as I know, the only two that played with or first invited to play with the Harlem Globe Trotters. Joyce Walker could beat all of your asses on here. Joyce Walker was better than Simone Augustus.

This Williams kid right now is better than Simone Augustus was when she left LSU.

Her fluidity with the ball is a thing of beauty. She actually looks like a guy out there. She has a true jump shot unlike Augustus. She is definitely a better scorer and ball handler

Joyce Walker probably was better than Simone Augustus, but she wasn't as good as Seimone Augustus.

Whatever man. These eyes watched her dominate people.
She averaged the same rebounds and more points per game than Augustus. That’s without a shot clock.

She was a guard and did this:
Walker was the only player in LSU history to rank in the school’s top 10 in scoring, rebounding, assists, steals, and blocked shots.

But y’all know every freaking thing…

For starters, I know how to spell Seimone's name. Joyce and I are the same age and were at LSU the same 4 years. She would play in men's pickup games in the old Gym Armory. She was a great player, but the women's game was much weaker back then. That's not a knock on Joyce, as you can only play when it's your time.

I'm more than happy to recognize Walker's greatness, but I just don't agree with her being better than Seimone. How about agreeing that they were both great Tigers?

Sue Gunter was not coaching at LSU when Walker and White were recruited. They arrived at LSU in the fall of 1980 when Barbara Swanner was the head coach. Sue Gunter began coaching at LSU in the fall of 1982. White had left the program prior to Sue Gunter's arrival. Walker did play her last two seasons for Gunter.
