Pump the brakes.

It’s too early to compare. It’s only 1 game played

That defense also had a few games where they look terrible. The offense didn’t do the defense any favors in 2019 the way the scored so quickly. Our average scoring drive time was 2:27.

Calm down. Way too early to make that conclusion. However, they have serious potential to do so. They had some dawgs on ‘19.

So they won 55-3 game 1 in 2019. Can’t do that. You might say, look at Tejas game. Can’t do that. This isn’t the 2019 offense that scored at will and kept sending the defense back on the field.
Look at the last 4 games of the season starting with TAMU when they were pissed and focused.

I was so impressed with the fundamentals. I can remember only 1 missed tackle (Cooley on the last drive).

Too small a sample size. But what will say, is 2025 does not seem to have any holes on D. We are really good on all 3 levels at pretty much every position. Our worst starter seems to be an average/above average SEC player. If this offense takes off, this could be a special year.

You think Lagway and Florida's receivers in Tiger Stadium will be more of a challenge than Klubnik and Clemson's receivers in Temu Death Valley?

We will have Haulcy for the whole game in what will be the third game for all our new defensive players (vs the first game).

I think we watched the first game of a defense that is better than any of our national championship teams from this century.

The defense looks impressive, but it's a small sample size...at this point, it's hard to make comparisons...

minus their best one for nearly all of the game. They were down to 1 really good receiver. They also had no running game or were 1 dimensional.
I’m not taking anything away from the defense - absolutely love it. Like others said we only have 1 game to go by.
2019 defense is worth about 200 million in current NFL contracts with Stingley arguably the best corner in the NFL.
Sample size, injuries, targeting, suspensions, etc all matters.

Antonio Williams is a good player but he’s their 3rd most talented wr. Bryant Wesco and Tj Moore are ballers they’re both taller and better athletes than Antonio Williams. Those guys were 5 stars for a reason we just had the backend to matchup with them

2019 ended up playing at an elite level at the end of the season and especially in the playoffs. But I do think this defense’s ceiling is higher and that they could end up playing more consistently across the season if we stay healthy.

But it’s early. We’ll know a lot more after the UF game.

The Oregon game was this good, but that was an other-worldly defense.

Antonio Williams
yet he led the 2024 team in catches, 75, yards 904 and average /game at 64. He was their best receiver and had the best chemistry with Klubnick. Stars do not matter if the chemistry isn’t there like early in the season. Just trying to say - it is too early to tell.

Best game 1 D since 2011 vs Oregon. The first half we were good not great. A few mistakes but still had some big plays and kept them from scoring a lot. 2nd half we make corrections, had creative pressure packages, and kept them out of the red zone. That’s elite on the road vs a top team. I don’t care if it was a worse team too. What they did was impressive on the road nobody who you played.

The LBs were excellent. The secondary had great coverage overall and the DL actually had good pressure to allow the blitz to work. The coverage with pressure is what impressed the most. Last few years we had silly blitz packages where we couldn’t cover so despite pressure they still had big gains all over the field. Now it’s different and we do both.

Gotta keep it up though.

Offense needs to be less conservative and trust the guys on the outside more. Running lanes were creative but a lot of running plays just went for nothing because we couldn’t push up front. Need some more running plays for Nuss to keep the defense guessing as well. Short yardage mismatches with your TEs seemed to be the game plan. I’ll be curious how that evolves vs Florida.

I think the Oregon game was better. Their offense was really good that year. They scored 27 but 2 of those tds were garbage time when the ga,e was well out of hand. We only allowed 95 yds rushing. We held the, to their lowest offense I’ve output of the 2011 season.

I’ve always felt the 2019 defense could’ve been an all timer if they needed. Having an all world offense allowed them to play a lot looser and just manage stops and takeaways.
